Gonorrhea, oldest of the sexual diseases since the medieval times, which is also called the “clap” or “drip” before it was discovered. The earliest record of the disease is found from 1611 when the English Parliament made a law to make sure that the contagious infection was reduced. Since then we have come a long way to discover various amounts of antibiotics to cure it along with learning about symptoms and how to avoid coming in contact with it. If gonorrhea isn’t taken care of properly and as soon as possible it can cause major damage to the body.
Gonorrhea is a contagious disease usually transmitted through sexual contact with someone who is infected with the disease. It can also be spread if a mother had a new born child. The infection usually occurs to people who have a lot of sex partners. Men and women can both be infected with gonorrhea. Four out of five women have no symptoms of gonorrhea but when they do Symptoms include discolored discharge, lower abdominal or pelvic pain, burning when urinating, spotting between periods and or after intercourse, burning or swelling of the throat. A lot of the time women think they have a yeast infection due to the discharge. One in ten men has no symptoms but Symptoms in men are discolored discharge, burning when urinating, burning and swelling in the throat, and swollen testicles. To be diagnosed with gonorrhea your doctor will take a sample of discharge from the urethra in men and the cervix in women or other areas of the body that are affected. Then the sample is sent to a laboratory where it’ll be tested for both gonorrhea and chlamydia because in most cases if you have gonorrhea you could have chlamydia as well. The test results take about a few days but they can also test your urine to check for the presence of the bacteria that causes
