Gonadotrophins are hormones that play a role in targeting certain structures in the Reproduction system. In females, they affect the ovaries and are produced during the menstrual cycle by the pituitary gland stimulation. There are two classes of gonadotrophins; follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH). FSH targets the follicles in the ovaries, preparing them for growth and development. LH’s primary function is to aide in the maturation of eggs, prior to ovulation. ?

Negative feedback is when an increased levels of a hormone in the blood inhibits further secretion of said hormone. For example, estrogen is regulated by the gonadotrophins in a negative feedback system. Estrogen and progesterone are involved in the normal regulation of natural hormone levels. When progesterone is consistently present, it consistently halts the secretion of FSH and LH. The prevention of those hormones then stop the follicles from developing and stop ovulation from occurring.
The cervical mucus gets thicker and stickier to prevent fertilization from occurring because it prevents sperm from reaching the egg. In addition, the vaginal wall is lining is being altered to stop fertilized eggs from attaching to the uterus’ wall. Estrogen and progesterone tag-team in an inhibition process preventing normal ovulation during menstruation.
Pregnant woman can’t ovulate during their pregnancy, because the duration of their pregnancy is one elongated menstrual cycle. Progesterone levels are increased during the elongated menstrual cycle the moment the sperm fertilizes the egg. In addition, another ovarian cycle would not commence until the estrogen levels decrease, which wouldn’t happen until after the expecting mother gives
