Globalization
Globalization describes the increased movement of people’s knowledge, ideas, and money across national borders that have led to increased interconnectedness between the world 's populations, economically, politically, socially and culturally. Sometimes globalization is thought of as the global marketplace, and this process has social and political implications as well. Globalization is thought of throughout the world as making societies educated and wealthier through trade to people around the world. Some people see globalization as a factor in the exploitation of the poor and as a threat to traditional cultures by the wealthy, as modernization changes societies. Thanks to satellite technology, news competitors can reach the most geographically remote areas of the world. Communication technology has a substantial impact on culture. For example, old and new musical traditions have developed a large international audience on the internet, which were limited just a few years ago.
Nationally-based media produce local television and movies, many media markets in countries of Africa, Asia, and Latin America are full of productions from the United States, Europe, Asia, Japan, and India. This phenomenon affects the profitable business and exerts a wide influence on society. Globalization led an increasingly homogenized world culture yet had also stimulated local cultures that have become increasingly diverse. (WTWA pg. 800)
Multinational companies cooperate with countries and bring their religion, culture, and lifestyles with it. Globalization is a development of a worldwide merger, which is the result of the exchange of worldviews, goods, thoughts, and a variety of aspects of culture.
When comparing States, Niumi in The Gambia and Texas bear some resemblance to each other. Niumi in Gambia and Odessa in Texas embraced a state of the art information technology in an attempt to keep well-informed with the needs put forth by globalization. Globalization has influenced trade in direct investments and an enhanced spending on the impact of international trade. Information technologies have a central role in endorsing globalization and shaping the form that it takes. The organizations within Numi and Odessa can engage in mutual trade agreements in a bid to increase their visibility in the global arena and consequently increase their economies of scale due to the utilization of information technology.
The 19th century set the stage for different policies that lead to the extending of America’s power, which is defined as imperialism. Imperialism started for different reasons like the Americans wanting the U.S. to expand or explore the unknown land, or even some feared existing resources in U.S. might eventually dry up. The reason imperialism started doesn’t really matter, but more of what it caused. Imperialism lead to Cuban assistance, the addition of Hawaii and Alaska to America, and Yellow Journalism.
Beginning in the 1900s, American culture has significantly affected the representation of gay men, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender characters, and the treatment of gay subject matter on television. American culture will be defined, as the presently accepted Western American way of materialistic, moral, ethical, and racial norms.
The 1800's were a renowned era in European history. With the rise of imperialism came the ruthless desire to seek new land through the use of authoritative implications. Whether it be the discovery of the Americas, where Christopher Columbus discovered various islands, which were clustered with indigenous people that were eventually completely wiped out for the pure desire of Spaniard power. This craving to "assimilate" indigenous people and to convert them to Christianity was an element, which rooted 19th century Europe. Although the actual question to whether these actions were good or evil are up for debate. Imperialism has been viewed as an expansion that serves only ones "object" and that it has no purpose beyond the benefit of the "self". This paper will explain Imperialism through a sociological perspective, while blending in notions of capitalism and modern day Imperialism that may now be viewed as Globalism.
Globalization is a series of social, economical, technological, cultural, and political changes that promote interdependence and growth. Globalization raises the standard of living in developing countries, spreads technological knowledge, and increases political liberation. (Harris 5-23) The main cause of globalization is influence from other, more developed, countries. Globalization is a historical process that results from human innovation and technological progress. The social effects of globalization are clearly illustrated in Peru. Once a third-world country filled with poverty and oppression, Peru is now transitioning into a developed nation. In Peru, globalization has raised the human development index, empowered women, and created a stronger country. (Leon 90-91)
History is difficult to define since the nature of history is often discussed, debated, and debunked, however the emphasis of the definition history is only confusing, because so many historians themselves question the nature of history as a practice. History holds so many truths; history is one part objective truth, another part of historical philosophy guiding populations into a direction of understanding, and yet another part exists to explain the complexities of human nature; the versatility and potential of history is the reason that so many study history. Globalization is a broad concept and the angle taken to define it can lead us to interpret the idea in many different ways. There is much controversy about what globalization actually means and many definitions fail to encompass social, cultural and technological exchanges between world systems. John Pilger suggests that "it is a jargon term which journalists and politicians have made fashionable which is often used in a positive sense to denote a 'Global village' of free trade, hi-tech marvels and all kinds of possibilities that transcend class, historical experience and ideology." (J.Pilger 1998:63). Taking a broader point of view, Bilton et al defines globalization as "The process whereby political, social, economic and cultural relations increasingly take on a global scale, and which has profound consequences for individuals, local experiences and everyday lives."
Countries have alternatives to work with policies that govern different regions and countries during business interaction. Countries adopt globalization as a forceful process that is unlikely to be changed. The future of globalization largely depends on the alternatives provided by regions and countries in the context of performing international business. In spite the differences experienced in the world, globalization provides a platform for integration of different cultures.
In today’s continuously changing world, many experts say that globalization is what every business, organization, and nation should seek and welcome as a positive change. However, many people are unaware of the main focus and meaning of Globalization, especially in comparison to Localization. A large number of people believe that globalization is just another common word used to refer to changes and differences that cannot be explained or accounted for. Therefore, many different activities or changes are improperly labeled to be a part of or caused by globalization.
The expression "globalization" is generally utilized as a part of business rings and matters of trade and profit to depict the expanding internationalization of businesses for merchandise and administrations, the budgetary framework, companies and commercial ventures, innovation, and rivalry. In the globalized economy, partitions and national points of confinement have liberally diminished with the departure of tangles to market access. Furthermore, there have been decreases in transaction expenses and layering of time and separation in global transactions.

Globalization can be defined as the international incorporation which results from the exchange of products, culture, ideas, and worldviews. Globalization is a term that is difficult to define, as it covers many broad topics in the global arena. However, it can typically be attributed to the advancement of economic, social, and cultural interactions among the companies, citizens, organizations, and governments of nations; globalization also focuses on the interactions and integration of countries (The Levin Institute 2012). Many in the Western world promote globalization as a positive concept that allows growth and participation in a global community. Conversely, the negative aspects rarely receive the same level of attention. Globalization appears to be advantageous for the privileged few, but the benefits are unevenly distributed. For example, the three richest people in the world possess assets that exceed the Gross National Product of all of the least developed countries and their 600 million citizens combined (Shawki and D’Amato 2000). Although globalization can provide positive results to some, it can also be a high price to pay for others. Furthermore, for all of those who profit or advance from the actions related to globalization, there are countless others who endure severe adverse effects.
Globalization’s history is extremely diversified and began during the beginning of civilization. Now we live in a world that is constantly evolving, demanding people to use resources in locations that are very difficult to obtain certain resources. This could make it completely impossible to operate in these specific parts of the world. However, globalization allows people across the world to acquire much needed resources. Globalization creates the opportunity for businesses to take advantage and exploit the ability to take part of their business to a different country. Nevertheless, globalization is part of today’s society and will be involved in virtually all situations.
Globalization is the connection of different parts of the world. Globalization results in the expansion of international, cultural, economic, and political activities.
