Gjon Mili was born in Albania and went to the United States in 1923. Gjon was studied to be an engineer and was an independent photographer that taught himself. In the mid 1930’s Gjon used small light bulbs to capture the motion of everything from dancers to jugglers in a single exposure. His photoflash techniques are still very much used today in light painting photography. Mili used this technique to study the motion of many dancers, musicians, jugglers and many other people. Mili’s creation of photoflash photography work was one of his first presents to the light painting world. Joseph Hirsch’s painting Daniel was painted in 1976-1977. In 1978 during the153rd Annual Exhibition of the National Academy of Design, it won the First Benjamin Altman (Figure) prize. It measures 38 inches by 45 inches (96.52 cm x 114.3 cm) with a five inch gold wood frame surrounding it. The medium is oil on canvas. Everything within the painting is centered to draw your eyes to the action of the turned head and the pointed finger. According to the placard next to the painting this is a modern day version of the biblical story of Belshazzar’s Feast following the sacking of Jesualism from the Book of Daniel. From this point on, each figure within the painting will be addressed as Hirsch intended. The painting depicts a seated king, a dozing courtesan and Daniel. The three figures are the focal point of the composition. Hirsch uses a strong color palette to give the painting a luxurious and wealthy feel. Although the detail is not miniscule, the composition as a whole is easily understood. The use of oil paint allowed Hirsch to play with the composition as it was created.

In Nicole Krauss’ short story, “The Young Painters”, Krauss brings across the idea of guilt swallowing the narrator because of her decision to steal a frightening story told to her by a dancer and recreate the story and publish it as her own work. In the first scene, the author encounters a captivating painter in the dancer’s home which she later discovers has a intense backstory. The Resurrection was made by Francesco Buoneri, known as Cecco del Caravaggio around 1619-20. The oil on canvas painting was commission by a Tuscan ambassador. Its new permeant home is in the Art Institute in Chicago. I chose to look at this painting for many different reason. The Resurrection is an amazing painting that through basic size, composition, and theme that captured my attention.
Many might have been working on Good Friday, but many others were enjoying The Frist Museum of Visual Arts. A museum visitor visited this exhibit on April 14, 2017 early in the morning. The time that was spent at the art museum was approximately two hours and a half. The first impression that one received was that this place was a place of peace and also a place to expand the viewer’s imagination to understand what artists were expressing to the viewers. The viewer was very interested in all the art that was seen ,but there is so much one can absorb. The lighting in the museum was very low and some of the lighting was by direction LED lights. The first type of using light to make a picture was the daguerreotype. Both Louis Jacques Mande Daguerre and Nicephore Niepce, who passed away before the public was introduced to the daguerreotype, founded this type of picture taking. However, before this Louis Daguerre made a "theater without actors." Beaumont Newhall explains that this was an illusion made by extraordinary lighting effects that made the 45 ½ foot by 71 ½ foot pictures appear to change as one looked at them (2).
Though most works of art have some underlying, deeper meaning attached to them, our first impression of their significance comes through our initial visual interpretation. When we first view a painting or a statue or other piece of art, we notice first the visual details – its size, its medium, its color, and its condition, for example – before we begin to ponder its greater significance. Indeed, these visual clues are just as important as any other interpretation or meaning of a work, for they allow us to understand just what that deeper meaning is. The expression on a statue’s face tells us the emotion and message that the artist is trying to convey. Its color, too, can provide clues: darker or lighter colors can play a role in how we judge a piece of art. The type of lines used in a piece can send different messages. A sculpture, for example, may have been carved with hard, rough lines or it may have been carved with smoother, more flowing lines that portray a kind of gentleness.

The art piece chosen for analyzing in this essay is from Claude Monet, The Windmill on the Onbekende Gracht Amsterdam oil on canvas painting from 1874. Claude Monet was born on November 14 in 1840 in Paris, French, and he death on December 5 in 1926 in Giverny, France. He was a founder of French impressionist painting, and the most consistent and prolific practitioner of the movement 's philosophy of expressing one 's perceptions before nature, especially as applied to plain air landscape painting. According with the information next to the painting in the museum of art in Houston “on one of his visits to Holland, Monet was intrigued by this charming windmill situated on the small “unknown quayside” in Amsterdam. The mill, built in 1656, produced textile dyes and was demolished in 1876.
“Dance is movement aware of itself. Dance is purposeful movement that employs artful communication to express ideas and feelings, meaning that aesthetic intention is present” (Cornett, 2014, p 394). Art could be anywhere and anything it just needs to have creativity in order to make it unique and beautiful. One simple art form, could speak for a thousand words and convey many significant messages such as the art form of dance. Baile Folklorico is a great example of communicating in a unique and a stunning art form. Baile Folklorico is a folk dance that elaborates different dances, music and costumes to represent a Latin or Mexican culture.
Jan Lauschmann, born in 1901 in Roudnice nad Labem and died in 1991 in Brno, was a renowned Czech photographer and scientist. Firstly interested in the medium of photography as a young boy, Lauschmann decided to pursue the career as a chemical engineer, later also lecturing at the University of Technology (1949-51), University of Defence in Brno (1951-63), and University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague (1964-76), where he focused his research on photographic technology. In the meanwhile, Lauschmann developed also in the practice of photography, exhibiting his works at several salons and contributing for magazines and journals both as a theorist and practitioner. His artistic output has been rediscovered in recent years, consequently,

Over period of last hundred years, A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man has attracted a multiplicity of interpretations. At times, critics have tended to focus primarily on the stylistic distinctions of this novel over the richness of plot and thematic significances. Harry Leviniiisees ‘A Portrait’ in the tradition of Kiinstlerroman. Others have attempted to find a close relationship between this novel and Joyce’s attempts to justify his own past. Reflecting this view, Richard Elmann writes, “To write A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man Joyce plunged back into his own past, mainly to justify, but also to expose it”. Also, the performers are constituted with same number of men and women. They imply the importance of equality through the performance. The female and male dancers use the same movements to show that they are equal. The message being conveyed here is important, on the grounds of its social influence and giving the whole performance a deeper meaning. The thing makes dancing different and odd to other occupations is the fact that most famous and well known dancers are mostly females, since on other social circumstances males tend to dominate more realms. Here, besides all the female masters, the male dancers appear as much as the female artists do and they also showcase what they are capable of. As I watched more of the performance, the interactions between dancers and the LED lights became more appealing to me. Dancers use their bodies to interpret the connections between human beings and technology. Moreover, the background music also plays a vital role in the production of this whole piece of art. The tempo of the music, the dance movements, as well as the frequency of the lights going on and off together appeared to the audience as a desirable combination. I love how the dancers do every movements according to the rhythm of the music and how they two fit perfectly. All of those things together made a great show to watch and
"A picture can paint a thousand words." I found the one picture in my mind that does paint a thousand words and more. It was a couple of weeks ago when I saw this picture in the writing center; the writing center is part of State College. The beautiful colors caught my eye. I was so enchanted by the painting, I lost the group I was with. When I heard about the observation essay, where we have to write about a person or thing in the city that catches your eye. I knew right away that I wanted to write about the painting. I don’t know why, but I felt that the painting was describing the way I felt at that moment.
