After reviewing and leaning about all the wonderful writers and artists Professor West taught us about, I believe Gil Scott Heron, is the artist who stuck out the most to me. This stanza gives the impression of that when the revolution begins; no one will have a quiet night at home. When stating about no being able to plug in, turn on and cop out, Scott-Herron was referring to base the LSD promoter Timothy Leary’s phrase, “turn on, tune in, and drop out.” The explanation of the use of “plug in” related to plugging in electronics, especially television in this instance. The line “You will not be able to lose yourself on skag and Skip out for beer during commercials” A “skag” is a slang term people use to use for saying heroin, which is a slight foreshadow for when Gil Scott-Herron get addicted to heroin later in his life. The beer line would be as good as saying that its common for people to be sitting and watching television and go get a beer when a commercial comes
