George Soros is a very well known author, investor and philanthropist. He was ranked as the twenty-fifth richest man in the world in February, 2015. He is, perhaps, best known for his short sale of ten billion dollars worth of English pounds during the 1994 Black Wednesday UK currency Crisis, which earned Soros more than a billion dollars. With his riches, he has become a popular philanthropist. He has donated more than eleven billion dollars to various philanthropic causes, including donations to the Central European University at Budapest.

George Soros was born in Budapest, Hungary to a Jewish family. He was thirteen years old in 1944, when Nazi Germany occupied Hungary. At age 14 Soros was forced to go into hiding. Soros lived through the …show more content…

In 1954 with Singer and Friedlander. He worked as a clerk. A man he met, Robert Mayer, suggested he apply at F.M. Mayer. Soros then joined F.M. Mayer in New York City where he worked as an arbitrage trader. Three years later, in 1959, he moved to Wertheim & Co, specializing in European stocks. Soros was influenced by the ideas of Karl Popper and the idea of reflexivity, a circular relationship between cause and effect, applied to the stock market. Soros realized that stocks prices changed according to the ideas of investors, not only by economic rules. From 1963 to 1973 Soros worked at Arnhold and SBleichroeder as a vice president and, in 1970, Soros established the Soros Fund Management.

George Soros has a long history of donating to worthy causes. He became active in the field during the 1970s when he provided funds to help black students attend the University of Cape Town in apartheid South Africa. Much of his philanthropy has been geared towards encouraging developing nations to be more open to freedom of commerce and more open to progressive ideals such as equality, freedom of speech and human rights. Since 2003, George Soros has been active in American politics.
