Genetic Testing is a very helpful and useful tool for the world today. There and many pros and many cons to each test. In this paper the discussion is the pros and cons of preimplantation testing, newborn screening, and breast cancer genetic testing. Many different tests are used today ranging from before conception of a fetus all the way to adulthood and that is how much medicine had developed over the last few hundred years. Most people think these test are miracles and gifts however there are some people that disagree entirely with the whole concept of messing with the fate of each person. According to Genetics Home Reference, “More than 1,000 genetic tests are currently being used, and even more are being developed.” All of these tests can be beneficial and/or harmful therefore doing the proper research can really inform each person beforehand. The correct research can be the difference in saving a life early on or causing more damage in the long run. However the only bad research you can do is no research at all. A way of listing research that would be very beneficial is by making a pros and cons list for each test you would like to look into. The pros of doing these test would be lifesaving in some sorts. If a family member has breast cancer getting yourself checked in advance could only help with the outcome of having it or not having it. You could take medications to even prevent you from having it before anything ever shows up, and if cancer does show up you will have caught it early enough to hopefully get rid of it for good. Another pro would be that you could spread the word and help other women and men that might develop this cancer and your contribution could even go towards research to help others also. However some cons would be, not knowing what to do if you do get a positive diagnosis since we are still not completely sure how to get rid of all cancers. Another con would be that the readings are not always right when it comes to genetic testing and therefore you could have the cancer gene and it not be noticed during the tests.
