Today, I will be comparing modern day gang violence in California to the family feud in Romeo and Juliet. The purpose for writing this essay is to inform readers on how family issues can be considered as gang related issues. First off, the feud between the two families in Romeo and Juliet was one of the main focal points. The feud was a long-lasting event in Romeo and Juliet. 	A major dispute is going on between the Capulets and the Montagues. These two households, "both alike in dignity," (1.Prologue.1) have been feuding for so long that they even forget the reason they are feuding. Romeo and Juliet, "a pair of star-crossed lovers who take their life," (1.Prologue.6) are results of how tragedy can be caused when the rage of past generations carries over to a younger generation. Tybalt is also an example of the theme. At Capulet's party, he walks up to Lord Capulet and says "Tis he, that villain Romeo" (1.5.67). Tybalt learns this rage toward Romeo and all the other Montagues through past generations.
The feud between their families was an 'ancient grudge' this resulted to people to no longer know the reason for the feud. The two household was greedy for power and social status which led to the lovers' unthoughtful actions leading to their death. From the very start, fate has deemed Romeo and Juliet's relationship as 'death mark'd' and to be destined to end to tragedy. The “ancient grudge” between the Montague’s and the Capulet’s influenced Tybalt who was fuelled by his hate for the Montagues to accidentally kill Mercutio caused by Romeo's interference, Romeo is then stricken of the death of Mercurio therefore seeks Tybalt for vengeance. Consequently, Romeo becomes a victim of the rivalry between the two families and is banished by the Prince's demand.
