G- Bob Cousy: 1950-1963
Although he was only 6’1, Bob Cousy was an absolute force on the court. Cousy was much more than a traditional point guard- his ability to find open teammates and score the basketball was truly unique for his era. Cousy spent his entire prime with the Celtics, winning six NBA champions in 13 seasons.
From 1952 to 1960 Cousy led the NBA in assists, which was a league record that stood for over 40 years. Cousy was an All-Star in all 13 of his seasons and a member of 12 All-NBA Teams (10x First Team, 2x Second Team). He was also the first player in Celtics’ history to win the MVP award doing so in 1957. He’s the Celtics career leader in assists.

C- Bill Russell: 1956-1969
Bill Russell is the greatest is not only the greatest champion in all of basketball, but also the greatest champion in all of sports. In his 13 seasons, Russell won an NBA record 11 NBA championships. The NBA has recognized the greatness of Russell by naming the NBA Final’s MVP Trophy the “Bill Russell MVP Finals Award”.
Russell was a force on both ends of the floor. It may be hyperbole, but players who played with and against Russell often say things like “Russell would have averaged around 10 blocks per game if they had tracked that stat back in the day”. Russell was the ultimate team player, putting winning before anything else, but even so, Russell still recorded tremendous individual statistics.
Russell averaged 15.1 points, 22.5 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game. He’s the Celtics all-time leader in rebounds. His five MVP awards were the most of any player at the time of his retirement. He was named to 11 All-NBA Teams (3x First Team, 8x Second
Earl Lloyd was probably the most courageous player of all time. Some people know him as “The Big Cat” others know him as the first African-American to play in an NBA basketball game with the whites; he changed the way people think and look at basketball and black players and coaches. Earl Lloyd loved basketball from a very young age. Earl had two brothers older than him which was Earnest and Theodore. Earl was very dedicated from a very young age. With his high school team he took them to a state championship and won. After high school Earl went off and took his talents to West Virginia State College. While Earl was there his sophomore year they went 33-0 which is a perfect season. Earl’s team won back to back CIAA conference championships and tournament championships.

Pete Maravich was one of the greatest basketball players of all time. His spectacular moves and awesome footwork helped him to get better everyday. His incredible passes and being able to control the court caused his teammates to like him even more. “His playground moves, circus shots, and hotdog passes were considered outrageous during his era” (NBA Encyclopedia Playoff Edition). His love for basketball was instilled by his father Peter “Press” Maravich.
Everybody had high expectations about him, they were seeing in him a new leader, a new beginning for the Pistons. He didn’t prove anybody wrong. He started at the 1995 all-star game after becoming the first rookie ever to lead all players in fan voting. Along with Jason Kidd of the Dallas Mavericks, were co-voted as the Rookie Players of the Year. In the next four seasons, he started in all all-star games and averaged 23.2 Points Per Game, 7.6 Rebounds Per Game and 6.7 Assist Per Game.

There have been countless documentaries and books written about him all of which express how well liked he was along with his tremendous success. To me, he is one the prime examples of a star player on and off the court. He never let his talent or popularity take away from the morals he learned as a child and kept them with him all along. A quality, which I believe, everyone wishes to carry in their lives, wherever their path may take them.

Michael Jordan, in his prime, was thought of as one of the greatest basketball champions of all time. A shooting guard, standing at six-six, Jordan was able to out play anyone in his position. He started his career at the University of North Carolina, where he helped his team win a national championship. He then was drafted by the Chicago Bulls in the 1984-85 season. While playing for the Bulls, Jordan received many awards such as, MVP, five championships, Olympic gold medals, slam dunk contests, and many more defensive and offensive awards. Jordan simply dominated the nineties and left the game as a NBA Finals winner in 1998.
First, we will celebrate LeBron James’s accomplishments in the NBA. There are over 400 players in the NBA. These players are on the battlefield, fighting day after day because they all know only one can become the Most Valuable Player. LeBron James rose above all, claiming the MVP award, not 1, not 2, not 3, but 4 times. Not only is LeBron James an MVP, but he is also a 13-time All-Star player. LeBron James garnered enough votes from the fans, the players, and the media to become an All-Star like a presidential candidate getting enough votes from the voters to become the President.
