Atlanta, capital city of Georgia, is s highly populated metropolitan area in the United States. It is placed ninth among the top ten largest metropolitan areas. The booming economy of Atlanta has made it home for many industries and companies. Major Universities like Georgia State University and Georgia Institute of Technology is situated at the heart of this city. But recently Atlanta has been facing with major challenges regarding transportation management, public health, lack of Pedestrian Street, no green space, pollution, and crowdedness. The most prominent issue of the city is traffic congestion and sprawl. When I look at these various issues, I find Atlanta to be less desirable for one to live. But when I look at the positive sides of Atlanta, people would love to live here. It is economically developed and prosperous city. In fact Atlanta has been declared as Alpha or world city as economically it ranks 15th among the world cities and sixth in the United States. There are lots of attractions in Atlanta and it is the home of the giant corporation Coca Cola Co. In order to make Atlanta a better city to live there must be some changes and affirmative actions taken by local and state government to make changes in near future.
Talking about the changes that Atlanta will go through in upcoming 50 years, I think there will be lots of changes. I see a prominent need in increase in the lifestyle of people and the march towards making lots of public transportation available to deal with traffic issues. As Atlanta is already a most populous city, there is no doubt that it is going to have more issues of over population growth in future. The problem of urban sprawl will be hard to fix. There will be less empty land and space to build new homes, work place, shopping plazas and recreational centers. The government will try to reduce or limit the size of people in city area and try to focus on decentralization of Atlanta’s cities. I think government will encourage for multiple- family houses and condominiums to be built. Lots of tax incentives will be provided by government to home builders and businesses to use previous land and fees and penalties will be charged to those who tried to use new, vacant or farm land.
I think the above mentioned changes will make a lot of difference with in 50 years. It will make Atlanta more bigger and better place to live.

Forbes ranked Atlanta as the sixth most dangerous city in the US with a violent crime rate of 1,433 per 100,000 residents. The city’s crime rate correlates with its poverty levels and low education rates. Beccaria’s believed punishment should be swift, severe and certain. Byproducts of sprawl include an increase in jobs, increases in population density, increased traffic, and increased housing costs. Due to the high cost of housing in Irvine, the city has faced lawsuits and other challenges in providing housing for low income earners.
Although the Housing Act of 1949 was passed with good intentions it can be seen that it lead to unforeseen complications that would exacerbate the urban crisis. Affordable high-rise housing, that was meant to bring more people into the city instead, forced the people who could afford it to move out into the growing suburbs and the poor to quickly demolish the poorly built maintained structures. As a result of displacement and previous Supreme Court decisions blockbusters would move African Americans into previous white neighborhoods which caused the movement of segregated districts within the cities to change. In the end the only thing that changed were the placement of black and white districts, the growth of suburbs, and empty lots where affordable housing once stood.

This urbanization process is causing a number of problems and should be met by sustainable development policies. In the beginning, it is important to know the definition of sustainable development. There are some definitions for sustainable development, but simply they say that sustainable development is a development which using resources now and preserving them for future generations (Adams, 1999, p.137). This concept has been agreed internationally at a Rio Conference in 1992 to be implemented by all government policies which mostly known as “Agenda 21” principles (Adams, 1999, p.141). This paper will show that traffic jams and housing problems caused by urbanization can be met by sustainable development policies. The structure of this paper will first explain the situation that leads to traffic jams and housing problems. Next, it will elaborate the sustainable development solutions, implications for the solutions, and evaluations how effective the sustainable development solutions solved the problems.
American cities in the 1900’s were the prime place to be. Cities were clean, industries were booming and education was a priority. “The city, not the farm, had become the locus of national experience” (Chudacoff and Smith 255). Everyone wanted to live their dreams in the city until they shortly realized the cities became overpopulated, hectic, and stressful. Streets became filled with garbage from people littering, traffic is always a problem, and there is no where to relax and enjoy yourself without the stress of work. Most Americans live in the 324 metropolitan areas of the United States. Even for the 50% of the population who live in the suburbs, problems of the central cities are increasingly common, and some pockets of urban decay have moved outward (Leviton, L. C., Snell, E., & McGinnis, M., 2000 p. 363).

Urbanization can cause a lot of problems for a city or even a country.
