Each individual has a natural moral code within them that allows them to distinguish between right and wrong. However, the moral code we have is jumbled and often we need to take the time to organize what we truly believe in. When we are unable to truly identify what we really believe in, we can become easily conflicted in what choices to make. Ethical behavior is a trait that will always be improving and altered within a person’s life, morals, character, and values. As a future dentist, I want to ensure that I portray a Christ-like character. The values and codes I will discuss through this paper have developed through several life experiences and family, school, and faith have played a key role in the growth of my main values. Through the values they have instilled in me, I have been able to identify how my personal values impact my daily actions and feelings. Some unethical practice may occur during treatment in the doctor-patient relationship. If I value honesty, I would charge my patients accurately. If I value service to others, I will do charity work to help those who cannot afford dental work. If I value kindness, I will treat all of my patients with the dedication and care that I show towards my parents and other individuals I love. As a future health professional I am responsible for showing care as well as valuing the patient and my interaction with them. I am not to act selfish or greedy or act in a way where I think about my power. I must think of others and show dignity and respect.
