Functionality of MBTI

One of the most diverse parts of a human being apart from physical appearance is

their personality. Each person is unique in their own way, too such an extent that two

similar people could have a reaction on complete different sides of the emotional

spectrum. For example, take a look at Jamie and Kimberly, both girls are best friends and

have the same interests, speak similarly, and have the same hobbies. At first glance they

may seem like they would have the same personality, however when put in a moral- questioning situation, they become completely different. Jamie decides that, after seeing a

dog get hit by a car, that she wants to volunteer at a pet shelter to help animals have a

better life. Kimberly, on the other hand, does not understand Jamie’s idea, as seeing a dog

get hit by a car did not make her particularly empathic about animals in general, although

she did notice the speeding problem in their neighborhood road, and chooses to bring that

to the city’s attention. In this case, Jamie is more of a ‘feeler’ type, and Kimberly is more

on the ‘thinker’ side of the spectrum. While Jamie is also a smart, logical person, seeing

the shocking tragedy made her cling strongly to a cause to help other dogs, like the one

she felt empathy and sympathy for. Her choice was not a fully illogical one, however she

acted on feelings rather than taking a step back like her friend did. Kimberly witnessed

the same event that her friend had, though she was able to analyze the entirety of the

situation, rather than acting on gut. This allowed her to notice how the driver was

speeding down the road and was unable to break fast enough to avoid hitting the dog. In
