Why are relationships so important, no matter what age in time, culture, ethnicity, religion, or social status? Friendships and relationships in general are crucial. They are constantly sought after in one way or another. Why is it that we need these relationships and actively search for them? We start off with familial relationships and then we look for friends and most end up looking for and finding a spouse or mate of some kind. Relationships are important for growth, learning, maturity, and for the completion of another person. In the beginning of genesis God made man, Adam, but adam was not complete until God had made woman, Eve, as well. It could be that she could talk to him and have fellowship with him. It could be that she could help him in the things that god had laid before him to do. It could be that Eve’s presence brought him pleasure and happiness. The interesting thing is that God made man and women and didn’t just create one kind of being. God created to different sexes. So, yes, we search out friendships but we also search out a mate, in most cases one. A romantic relationship is somewhat different that a best friend. You can have a really close platonic relationship but there is something about a romantic relationship that brings two people closer to each other. Since friendship is a a part of a romantic relationship and a romantic relationship is not a part of all friendships, the broader subject should be addressed first. Within the class of friendships there are three different types of friendships. There are friendships of use, friendships of pleasure, and complete friendships. Friendships of use are people that are beneficial to each other in a useful way. This would be the friendships where: you are friends with someone because they are rich and always get you a really nice birthday gift, the friends that are friends just because one of them is better at math and is helpful, or the friends that are simply the other person's friend for the sake of the popularity that person gives
