In everyone’s perspective, there are many controversies about whether or not there is really free speech in social media. There are many articles written on people talking about their bosses or co-workers, and in no way is that right. You might not appreciate that person or, you just straight out dislike them; but you don’t need to be immature about it, and post it on the world wide web for everyone to see. Doing so just looks poor reflection on yourself, and no one else. While there is freedom of speech in social media, self-censorship may be necessary in some situations.
There is some stuff that you can do, or not do on social media, and in general there is a terms and policy that you read every time you do anything on: Facebook, YouTube, and twitter. The positive aspects that social media provides: You don’t have that awkward, nervous, train wreck of a conversation in person, but you can talk to them on the web without feeling uncomfortable. Still, there are guidelines one must follow. You can’t post anything that has to do with racial altercations, and threats. Many people “voice” their point of views online. If they have a problem or need help, they have a virtual audience instead of standing in front of millions of people and having to communicate with them.
One thing that shouldn’t be on the web whatsoever is cyber bullying. You don’t know what other people have been through in their life time, so you should never post anything that could really offend a person. Social media is intended for sharing information with friends and family, not for bullying.

...swer to the question “is there free speech when it comes to social media?” is not a simple yes or no. You can say whatever you want. Just be prepared for possible consequences. If you have to agree to certain guidelines and terms in order to talk or post, then you should follow those terms and practice self-censorship. Otherwise, you chance being reprimanded in some manner.
