[Analysis] The story “Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass an American Slave” and “The Drummer Boy of Shiloh” are very interesting stories. In “The Drummer Boy of Shiloh” the mood actually changes by the end of the story. In “Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass an American Slave” the main character goes through a lot to resolve his conflict. Both stories have a certain mood, tone, conflict, and resolution. In “Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass an American Slave” the mood is developed right away. It states,” the tender heart became stone.”( Douglass, line 27) When douglass is talking about his mistress here it immediately creates a somber mood. Then the tone is created. The story states,” Slavery proved as injurious to her as it did to me.”( Douglass, line 21) When douglass says this it creates a discouraged tone. …show more content…

The mood is created when the story goes,” Beyond the thirty-three familiar shadows, forty thousand man, exhausted by nervous expectation, unable to sleep for romantic dreams of battles yet unfought, lay crazily askew in their uniforms.”( Drummer Boy, lines 16-19) This created a suspenseful, nervous mood because the soldiers are nervously waiting for battle. The mood in “Drummer Boy of Shiloh” changed at the end. During the story, the general talks to the main character and calms him down. At the end, the story states,” He cleared his throat, settled himself.” Here he is actually more relaxed about fighting the next day.The tone is developed during the middle of the story when the general tells the main character that he is,” The heart of the army.”(Drummer Boy, lines 141-142) This gives the reader a sense of hope for the main
