“What is love?” a song written by Haddaway is an excellent example of what society asks themselves. People have always wondered about what love is, more importantly, what it should look like. Though love is commonly defined as a physical, romantic emotion, it may be better defined as a willful decision to allow another to either accept, or deny the offer of love. Both men and women desire an unconditional love, and simply want to be loved. Longing to be loved by another, people have a great desire, there is no question about that, but what kind of love do they desire? Extremely hard to define love, in and of itself. Forming our own kind of “Love” as many people do, whereas, there are four different types of love. Agape love, which is a unconditional love for someone. Unconditional, meaning that there are no conditions in the relationship, no rules to follow, or not to follow. Meaning, that if someone were to come and ask you on a date, you can either accept, or deny their offer. Whereas, if you deny the individual, they will still support you, and what you do. Another example is when someone approaches you, and explains that they do not want you to talk to them, you respect that, but you still love them. Eros love is a romantic type of love, where a man and a woman love each other in their relationship. This is the sexual love that the world twists, and changes into something that is erotic. Phileo(Fi-lay-oh) love is the love for your friends. Containing the great relationships you have with them, nevertheless, all the memories you share together. Lastly, there is storge love. Storge (Stor-ge) love is the love for your immediate family, along with your extended family members. All of these are important and people need to understand that love is an important element, for when you say ‘I love you’ to someone, you mean countless things, and that’s the beauty of love. Continuing, the world twists, and changes the meaning of love. Hollywood has turned eros love, into something erotic, something that isn’t beautiful like it originally should be. Storge love has been changed into children, who long for their fathers, to come home, and tell them they love them. Children in today's world want to be loved by both of their parents, but they lack the Storge love. Society has twisted the meaning of phileo love by being jealous of their friends and being a “fake friend”. Not liking your friends because they have something that you do not. Agape love has been changed because people are so used to being lied to, and not having any secure trust. Movies show us that it’s all right to give a piece of your heart to a lot of people. Some movies show us that whenever there is a relationship, it isn't pure. There is always sexual activity involved, and that causes the breakups to hurt more. Disastrous, is how the vast majority of relationships end and, accordingly, it puts you in a bigger hole where you did not want to be in the first place. If you look at some of the relationships on television, the couple are not content. Yes, they were an adorable couple, on the outside, but on the inside, they do not have a healthy relationship.
