My initial decision to study forensic science was based upon my interest in the different skills and methods that are used to solve a crime, specifically the way that forensic analysts examine blood stains and finger prints. I am also looking forward to studying genetics as I find it fascinating how the genes are built up and how forensic analysts use the different samples that they find on the crime scenes to help the police find the criminal. I understand that studying forensics will be a lot different on what is shown on TV as they do not show as much of the science that is actually needed to solve crimes

By volunteering as a girl guide leader, I have developed valuable life skills such as, communication skills, leadership skills and teamwork skills. Effective leadership skills will allow me to lead a group to success with limited disagreements, Good teamwork skills I feel will help me on the course as it will allow me to work as part of a team of forensic scientists with limited confrontation or disagreements. I also currently volunteer at a wild hedgehog rescue where I help care and rehabilitate wild hedgehogs over the winter ready to be released in the spring, I believe that this has given me responsibility as I need to make sure that all the hedgehogs have had the right medication. During high school I mentored a younger student in my tutor group I would help them with their homework by explaining it to them in simpler terms , I mainly tutored them in biology and maths as these were the subjects they were struggling with the most. Outside of college I regularly play basketball I believe this has improved my teamworking skills and my communication
I began this year considering a career in forensics. After delving into the field in detail however, I see that it is a very delicate science and easily open to misinterpretation. There are many variables within forensics, the first and foremost being that of the CSI effect and how it influences our expectations of the capabilities of forensic science. While it's true that great advances have been made in the area of forensic science, it's unrealistic to expect a crime scene to be processed, evidence analyzed and a conclusive forensics report to be completed in a short time and be completely accurate 100% of the time. Forensic science has a lot of room for improvement, and understanding if, how, and why shows like CSI affect the field is of high priority. After all, this is real life and not a TV show.

Forensics are believe it or not very different in reality that they show on some of our favorite crime shows and movies. Since the shows CSI, CSI Miami, CSI New York, Bones, Dexter, NSIC and other crime shows have come out there has been a fair increase in civilians wanting to be a Forensic scientist. There are many differences between the TV/Movie world and reality. These jobs are a lot harder than the shows and movies let on for us to believe. The CSI, CSI Miami, CSI New York, Bones, Dexter, NSIC shows and other crime solving shows show that Forensic Science is a fast paced, exact and easy job to have.
Over the four years that I have spent at Good Counsel, I became part of many activities. Each helping me evolve as a person and become stronger yet. Simple lists could be made of every activity that I have ever been involved in but it could never express to a person what I have learned and how it helped me to grow. Every environmental club, science club, political science club, service work, and S.A.D.D. club I was part of had a very special message to deliver to me. Whether the message was one of responsibility, or a life lesson, I grew from it. The Political Science club opened me to many new experiences. It allowed me the chance to attend the Model U.N., where I was asked to address today's top world issues. This club was very beneficial to me because I was exposed to topics and ideas that I had not previously been able to discuss or learn about in a classroom situation. The science club allowed for me to experience extra educational situations as well. I took part in a hovercraft competition, which was very educational while also allowing me the chance to work with others for a common goal.

Forensic scientists apply the studies of science to areas of crime and law enforcement. They are essential in the solving of all crimes for without them there would be no way to study and use evidence. To become a forensic scientist one must go through intense training and education as well as the basic education needed for any career. There are many different areas of forensic sciences including odontology, anthropology, and toxicology. Math is a crucial aspect of any forensic science. Forensic scientist Detective Sergeant Schiele, from the Concord Police Department says “never stop learning.”
The first step taken to become a forensic scientist is to first pass the education required to become one. The education level chosen depends on what kind of forensic job you are interested in and what salary you are going for. Most entry-level forensic positions require a bachelor’s degree in forensic or natural science (Anne 1996). Undergraduate programs consist of toxicology, biochemistry, and criminal justice classes. The American Academy of Forensic Sciences also recommends English classes. This is because forensic scientists need very honed written and oral communication capabilities to write detailed reports and testify physical evidence in court.

Forensic science is an enticing career having to do with science and criminal justice, a large variety of schooling is needed to start this job Despite the fact that it can be a dangerous environment it can be an exciting profession to pursue. There are many different fields in forensic science that you can study or major in but they all have the same objectives.
This recent choice was sparked by my AP Biology class, where I got intrigued by the study of cells, DNA, and other microorganisms that make up our bodies. One career that peaks my interest with these attributes is Forensic Science. As a Forensic scientist, I would be aiding the community through scientific analysis varying from civil disputes to protecting public health. If this is the career that I wish to undertake, then I will use my knowledge gained from years of college to try and make the best choices for the community. My other career path, biochemistry, also has a large impact on the community around me which is one of the reasons that I was attracted to it.
In order to pursue my dream as a Forensic Psychologists I am aware that I have to put in a lot of effort and determination in to school. There are various aspects to pursuing my career such as getting good grades, volunteering in police departments, networking, and doing an immense amount of research on my field.
