You start off feeling strong emotions of hatred and jealously. Thinking, I know exactly how this feels, or how could anyone think of doing this. When you read about all the differences between these sisters, how they live and are treated, you start to understand why the narrator feels what she feels. However, the narrator does unexpected. Something no one would expect to happen in this poem. This poem demonstrates the hatred of siblings, the jealousy of siblings, the unfairness of life, and how despite all that, love will always prevail. This author is the most humane yet honest person around who has created a beautiful poem on sibling relationship.
The poem this essay is based on is For my Sister by Jannifer Traig. Not much is known about the author, except for the short bibliography provided in the book From Totems To Hip-Hop. She is an unknown identity. All that is known, is that she attended the University of California Berkley and was a student in a poetry class taught by Ishmael Reed. (Reed, 503). However, her poem does provide some information about her personal life. One thing is that she has had siblings or been close to someone with siblings. This is something that can be taken out of the poem because only someone that has siblings or has been around someone when they are with their siblings can understand all the hatred, jealously and love one can have for them. The author may not have experienced these particular events in this story, but she has to have felt something like this in order to convey these feelings in such a strong and amazing way. Not only has the author greatly expressed these emotions, but she has used various examples display this and really bring the story to life.

Jannifer Traig is an excellent author that has conveyed some amazing emotions through her poem, For My Sister. Not only could I connect to the poem on an emotional level, I could connect to it on a personal level too. One doesn't need to have siblings to enjoy this story, but having some would give the reader a deeper understanding as to why the narrator does what she does, and why she feels what she feels. For My Sister is a poem with a deep meaning of strong opposing emotion combined into one. I enjoyed this poem a lot and the way the author demonstrated the hatred and jealousy between siblings, the unfairness of life, and how despite all that the love they have for each other will always prevail.
