There is growing attention and awareness to the topic of concussions. It is an important topic, especially for athletes who are more prone to head injuries. I especially like this topic because it helped me understand what the process was if I ever received a concussion. I also wanted to know what needs to be done in order to treat a concussion. I used the school database from the our school library website to find great sources with credible information. I used the CRAAP test on most and they all received a very high score. Concussions can have serious effects on players including death. While the diagnoses of concussions in the NFL has increased so has the awareness and research which may account for the increased incidence of NFL players with concussions. This paper will examine the causes, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, effects and strategies for prevention of concussions. If a player is hit in the head in a football game, the player may have a headache but the doctor may not know if the player received a concussion. After the game, the player would take the ImPACT test again and if the score is dramatically different than the baseline scores, the player would likely be diagnosed with a concussion. The NFHS (National Federation of High Schools) first required the ImPACT test for all football players before the start of the season and now has expanded the requirement that all players in any sport must take the ImPACT test in order to participate. These latest tests have diagnosed hundreds of concussions and have saved many lives. In the past fifteen years, ninety-one National Football League players have donated their brains for
