The position of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics on Food Insecurity in the US is to achieve food and nutrition security for all people within the US. Access to food is a basic human need and a fundamental right.
Food insecurity refers to limited or uncertain availability of nutritious and safe food. This may include reduced quality/ variety of food that can be obtained in socially acceptable ways (low-food security), or disrupted eating patterns and reduced food intake (going hungry, going without, giving food to children but not you- very-low food security).
