The text that I chose to analyze is the song “Fix You” by Coldplay because the song is very meaningful and it is a very relatable song. The song “Fix You” takes a tragic event and turns it into a beautiful melody that anyone who has gone through a difficult event can relate too. In trying to convey the meaning behind the words Coldplay meritoriously chooses certain words. The reason the words need to be chosen so carefully is because they need to convey what the artist is trying to get across while also allowing people to connect to the lyrics. When trying to express something personal you want to get the right phrasing because to you it’s not just a bunch of lines on a piece of paper but a part of yourself that you’ve put into the lyrics. An example of this for me would be my art and how every drawing even the simple ones contains a piece of myself because I made it and it belongs to me until I chose otherwise. Thus, the song “Fix You” which is supposedly about someone in the band losing a loved one contains a piece of everyone involved in writing the words.
