Life is full of ups and downs, and sometimes it is hard to stay focused and motivated in achieving goals. Achieving goals means being motivated to push against all the odds no matter what the problem might be. Everyone is different in overcoming different obstacles in their life; some people might listen to a song, talk with a friend, or take a jog to get over something that has happened. I like to think of my favorite quote, and my favorite quote is Finish Strong. Finish Strong came from my softball coach my sophomore year. He read some great stories from the book. Those stories along with the quote stuck with me ever since. I like to think of my favorite quote because it is inspiring, meaningful, and successful. First, Finish Strong is inspiring. Finish Strong is a choice that is made by you. This quote possess a mindset to perform at an exceptional level, and refusing to accept mediocrity. Finish Strong is two powerful words put together to make a dynamic duo. …show more content…
The motto was first introduced during my sophomore year of high school by my softball coach. During my sophomore year, I was moved back and forth between JV and Varsity for softball. Before the season started, the varsity team had a team retreat at one of the player’s house by the lake. I was invited to attend the retreat with the varsity team. During the retreat, my coach had brought the team together on the front porch after dinner. Then he started handing the team these white and black bracelets that had Finish Strong written on them. The Finish Strong was written in a white bold print on the black rubber, so the bracelet stood out. After handing the bracelets out to the team, coach brought out a book that had different people’s life stories on how they finished strong with their situations. Coach read the team three or four stories from the book, and those stories stuck with me ever since. This is how Finish Strong is meaningful to
The theme “to finish is to win” is shown many times throughout this story. One example of this theme is in the second paragraph of this story where it states “...She woke up at 5:30 am every morning in order to swim for an hour before her high school classes began. During track season, she trained with long-distance runners. ...logging a weekly average of 200 miles on her bike and running between thirty-five and fifty miles a week.” This quote shows how much time and effort Greta put into training so she could complete this Ironman race. For Greta, her goal was to be able to complete the race, not to win it. She is and should be more focused on completing her own goals than being faster than someone else.
The strength to persevere and keep going are traits that are something everyone should learn to have. No matter what you are going through if you have that mentality or mind state I feel like you can accomplish anything you set your mind to. Mattie had her mind set on avenging her fathers death and wanted to do it at any cost and she wouldn’t stop until she’s had her justice. That was her motivation, maybe something can motivate you to keep persevering through the many obstacles in your life.
In the book A Long Way Gone written by Ishmael Beah, Ishmael survives and describes his journey while at war. Ishmael was a 13 year old who is forced to become a child soldier. He struggles through a variety of problems. In his journey, he was separated from his family and mostly running for his life. Later on, he has no problem killing people and picking up his gun. In fact, anyone can be evil at any certain time with kids changing, getting drugged, and going back to war.
Angela said that when people don’t believe failure is a permanent condition, they are able to grow and overcome, which builds grit. If you get knocked down 7 times, get up 8. This saying relates to my Mom. After my Dad died of course it hit all of our family very hard, but it was hardest for my Mom. She now has to raise two children on her own, she also lost one of her best friends and someone she had known since they were children. Her growth mindset let her learn the new ways that she didn’t know. She is facing the hardships that life throws at her head on and not backing down. That is grit and that is why she is successful in life.
Rise and Swim is an inspirational speech on you tube. This is a very interesting and powerful speech. It is an athlete related speech but it not only encourages them but everyone. It claims that if you really want to achieve something, you have to strive for it because there would be lots of different voices in your head that may put you down, but listening to the one voice that says “You got this, you’re ready”, you know then you are on the right path. Everything and anything is possible if you put your heart and mind to it. Goals can’t be achieve successfully if you are not motivated enough. Being motivated is something that will help you stick to what you planned out for life and goals, and it will help
“Forget your past, your customs, your ideals. Select a goal and pursue it with all your might. You will experience a bad time but sooner or later you will achieve your goal. A bit of advice for you: do not take a moment’s rest.” I like this specific phrase, because it encourages me to pursue my dreams even if I encounter failure. In my opinion, in the past when poor people from a different place immigrate starting a new life. They needed sense of motivation and they encounter different situation where they wanted to give up and some of them persisted.
I live by this quote on my personal life because it's inspiring. The overall meaning is if you have a gift or chance don't sacrifice it and act on it. Don’t ruin your chance and just do it. I try to live by that to always try my best on whatever I do to get the best grades and acquire the most knowledge. Over Junior has been my best year yet. I got out of my comfort zone by doing different thing and tried to be more out there. I believe I did, I joined Various clubs involving me into the overall community of Godinez. Clubs such as Red Cross, CSF, Key club and very recently ASB. Set back I believe would be more in sports because although I did perform I wasn’t
What inspired me the most from Mawi’s experience was if you work hard and don’t give up good thing’s will come and happen to you. You will always lose 81-10 if you don't push your turbo button. You won't get anywhere if you don't push that button you will always lose and never win. To just give up isn't the way to go you will have hard times in your life you just have to fight through it and push yourself.
This will prove to be especially important as I move on to college, and as I embark on my journey of being a student athlete at the University of Nevada Reno. I know that being a student athlete will be challenging in the sense that I will have so many obligations and so little time; however, this mentality will further help me achieve my goals both athletically and academically, as I refuse to settle for anything less that what I am capable of achieving. I know that at times it will be tough, but I also know that quitting is not an option. If I were to stop in the middle of a race right when it got tough, I would never be able to experience the triumph of finishing. In the end, the glory of the fight is one of the most rewarding elements of
“If at first you don’t succeed try , try again.” At the age of six I was starting to play football. The game was a hard hitting running and commitment. I was six years old at the time now I’m fourteen a freshman in high school a lot has changed.
“The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place, and I don't care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it” (Rocky Balboa 2006). This partial quote from the sixth Rocky film is entirely too true. When life knocks us down, at that point we have to make a decision. Do we stay down and accept defeat, or do we choose to get up and keep fighting? When you accept defeat and accept your loss, you fall into a pattern of accepting all your failures because losing is a state of mind, and it’s at that moment you have truly failed. But fortunately winning is a state of mind too. Winning and refusing to accept defeat is a mindset. The first step to being a winner is thinking like one. This was a tough lesson for me to learn but at this time in my life I am finally beginning to understand this concept in its entirety.
Many people learn many different life lessons throughout their lives. Whether it’s from reading a book, watching a movie, or living the experience yourself. Many life lessons can be taught to people through several different things. These include, but are not limited to, hard-work, getting a job, playing sports with a team or by yourself, and achieving your goals. I have learned many life lessons through many different things. Three of these life lessons are never give up, it’s not over ‘til it’s over, and that there are two types of pain, physical and regret, and only one fades with time.
This was the lesson I learnt from my father, an unceasing learner and a person who would never give up no matter how many and how difficult the obstacles may be. Having understood from him that success is a moving target, the years of my life with my family have inculcated in me a desire to achieve perfection.
This happened when I failed. My failure reveled to me several life-lessons. One lesson that it showed was to never give up. I was right on track to achieving success, until I stopped trying. If I had continued to try to reach my goal, I would have achieved success. Another life-lesson that my failure taught me was to set your goals high, to a point where you can’t stop trying until you have met your goal. During my freshman through junior year, I worked very hard to accomplish my goal. Then, during senior year, I stopped trying to achieve my goal, because I thought that I already met the goal. If I would have changed my goal to being the top of my class, I would have had to try very hard until the day of graduation. In turn, I would have become an honor graduate. My failure also taught me to never give up. I would have achieved success, if I hadn’t given up. Another aspect of life that my failure taught me was to never forget your goals. When “senior-it is” hit me, I completely forgot about my goals. Had I remembered my goal, I would have succeeded. One last life lesson that failure has revealed to me is to always try your hardest. No matter what the task is, always put all you have to overcome the obstacle. Failure is disappointing, but it is a necessary part of
“Something in human nature causes us to start slacking off at our moment of greatest accomplishment. As you become successful, you will need a great deal of self-discipline not to lose your sense of balance, humility and commitment.
