Many people dream of having a college degree someday. However, most people are not able to accomplish that dream due to cost of tuition. A college degree can be an investment. It can give people a better life to live and a better career. Going to college can be very challenging due to harder classwork and a lot of homework. Students hardly have time to do anything outside of school because there is so much studying to do. It takes a very motivated person to achieve a college degree. Colleges these days offer many ways to afford tuition and other expenses for school. There is government funding called financial aid, although not every student is able to receive the funds. Students whose parents have higher income than most will not be able to receive financial aid funds. Financial aid is mostly given to students who are married and/or have kids. I do not agree with how the process works. It takes a teenager who has a kid without being married to be able to go to college for free. I do not think the government is fair to many people. Therefore, students who do not receive financial aid, have to have a job to pay his or her way through college. Even though choosing to go to college is something that takes a lot of thought, there’s still the idea of how to pay for it. The documentary “The College Conspiracy Full Documentary” by SubscriptionFreeTV mentions that in America, high school students should go to work as soon as possible because entering a college is a waste of time and money. Firstly, the documentary says the bad results of going to university is that 2/3 graduates have loans to pay because of the high tuition. Nevertheless, the degree which graduates get from the college is worthless and they can hardly find a job associated with their degree. Secondly, the documentary explain the reason of the result. In a recent U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are jobs that pay an annual salary of at least $61,000 that only needs a high school diploma (Giang). If this is how much someone could with just a high school diploma, one can earn an even high salary after obtaining a college degree. In a HuffPost Business post, they mentioned that college tuition is too high and that many students are debtors. However, there is financial aid, scholarships, and grants for students who need financial assistance (Fairchild). Financial aid, scholarships, and grants can benefit people who have the ambition to go to college. The Institute of Education Sciences has statistics that states about 85% of students receiving financial aid in 2012-2013 (Financial Aid). 85% of students receiving financial aid is a massive amount of people, whereas in 2007-2008 only 80% of students could receive financial aid. The work load outside of the classroom could be compared to working a full time job. When is comes to money, saving for long terms goals is harder than acceptings loans when you need the money. However, is sure beats having to pay back loans years down the road. If one were to work throughout high school and save $6 per hour, he could have a savings of up to $24,960 by the time he finishes high school (Steinberg 1). This is an acceptable solution because it does not affect the student’s academic performance adversely. As a future freshman in college with the threat of student loans hanging over my head, I know I need to take control of my financial future now. In my financial aid letter from my accepted school, RIT, I was granted $2,800 in a work study. The risk with this is they don’t take it off my tuition directly, it gets paid to me directly. As a freshman who wants to go out with friends and eat fast food, I’ll have to learn how to budget my money so that I don’t end up needing to take out more loans because I spent all my work study money. This summer, I plan to work as much as I can in order to save up spending money for myself so that I can put all my work-study earnings towards my tuition. Some students take online classes, even though he or she may be working on school work outside of school it is still possible, because you will have time to complete work that needs to be done and still attend work. Talk to your employer to see if he or she could work around your schedule to attend school and still be able to work. Even though you may not be at work your employer could make a way for you to work remotely if that’s possible you. The majority of students who work also receive financial aid to attend college. Part- time jobs can help him or her pay for summer classes if needed. Working helps you reduce the amount that you have to borrow for school pay for school.
