Bleed for This is a biopic of the former world lightweight and light middleweight champion Vinny “The Pazmanian Devil” Pazienza and his inspirational comeback from a near-fatal car crash. This film was made in 2016 and was directed by Ben Younger, who also wrote the screenplay and story. Miles Teller portrays the aforementioned Pazienza and is joined by Aaron Eckhart, who plays Kevin Rooney, Vinny’s new trainer and former trainer of Mike Tyson, as well as Ciaran Hinds, who plays Angelo Pazienza, Vinny’s father and coach. The movie starts off with Vinny at his weigh-in before fighting Roger Mayweather for the World Light Welterweight Title, which he eventually loses. When someone is highly motivated, they will do anything to pursue something that brings them closer to the end goal. When Vinny loses his first fight to Mayweather, he seeks help from the famous Kevin Rooney. Instead of sulking after the loss, he does what he can to better himself and he does so by hiring an even better trainer. Vinny’s intense focus and effort shows through his training, especially when he was injured. Even when he was not fighting, Vinny would take notes of his boxing matches and replay them repeatedly. This intense focus is also evident in the scene where the doctor removes the screws from his head. Vinny intends to get the procedure done without the use of anaesthetics because he claims to have never done any kind of drug because it would negatively affect his performance and it would be against who he was. Even though it would cause him excruciating pain, Vinny went through it because to him, taking any kind of drug would violate his moral values. Through this, Vinny portrays another concept that Dr. Fraser-Thomas refers to as identified regulation, which is defined as actions driven by personal importance or values.
