Pearl Harbor
The film I chose was Pearl Harbor being directed by Michael Bay and was released in the United States on May 25th, 2001. Pearl Harbor was a theatrical run-through of the events that took place prior to, during and after the attack happened on the United States at Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941. These attacks ultimately led us to join in the war and declare war on Japan. The film Pearl Harbor was a plot based on two Army pilots who, while fighting a war, fall in love with a woman, mourned the loss of a great friend and found love again. Although not receiving the best review from critics, the movie was a box office hit. The portrayal of the events are vivid and realistic. As Franklin D. He was shown trying to convince Washington of this feeling he had. It also showed him on a golf course playing a round of golf as the attacks began. After reading historical facts these occurrences seem to be inaccurate. Kimmel had received several warnings of a possible attack on his fleet in Pearl Harbor. He felt the warnings were too incomplete and choose to disregard them. Kimmel did receive a report one hour prior that Japanese planes had arrived, however, he was preparing to meet with Army Officer Walter Short for a regular game but called it off when he heard of the attacks, therefore he was not on the golf course as the film depicts. He was the first African American to be awarded the Navy Cross, which is the third highest honor. He was shown in the film as gathering laundry when the first torpedo hit. He followed orders from commanders and was heroic in his actions. He saved many lives that may have been lost. The depiction of Doris Miller, in the film, was portrayed accurately. As the film shows a hospital, which occurs after the attacks when injured victims arrived, the use of coke bottles for blood transfusions was also a factual event.
