Teenage Pregnancy
Over the last decade, there has been an increase of teen pregnancy all over the world! Many more young teens from the ages of 13-19 are having kids out of marriage and way before they graduate high school. This has been a worldwide problem over the years. A show has even been created to show all the struggles that young teens go through by having a kid at a young age. Most teenagers don’t know the real problems and conflicts that will occur when getting pregnant at a young age. They are not financially stable or mentally stable to raise a child, and that’s where the real problems start. Many teenagers suffer long-term consequences of teen pregnancy. This worldwide problem can be improved with 3 steps: Education about sex, parenthood, and STD’s. Community help, and a peer mediation program.
One of the problems that have an effect of teen pregnancy does not know how to get a hold of a contraceptive. Many teens do not use them because some need permission by a parent/guardian to get like the pill or shot. The most effective way to prevent pregnancy is abstinence and just waits until the time is right. If not, there are a few things that help prevent pregnancy from happening: The male condom, the pill, the shot, a patch, an IUD, etc… Some people think that they won’t get pregnant if there are on their period or they pee right after or douche but that is wrong! Contraceptive goes back way back in time. “Ancient people swallowed potions to cause temporary sterility; they used linens, wool, or animal skins as barrier methods; they fumigated the uterus with poison to keep it from bearing life (Fradd.). ...ng lasting harmful effects, both psychological and physical; this detrimental issue needs to be eradicated. Teen pregnancy is not right, and should not be tolerated. Hopefully, by studying the causes and effects, a much needed solution can be discovered and implemented. Of the three solutions researched, the solution that is most logical and feasible is abstinence because it’s that safest way to prevent any bad idea concerning sex. If something does not change than there are going to be more girls with no education and raising a child on their own. A solid remedy can be implemented to end this very serious problem. In conclusion, stay safe, stay happy, and enjoy life the way it should be enjoyed. Don’t let society fool people. Have fun, you can have fun and be safe at the same time, sex is not important. Don’t let a child be on your bucket list or failures.

For the total amount of births, only 908 were from young women who were below the age of 20 in Washington DC. About 879 were from young women that were around high school ages 15-19. Specifically, Southeast DC is a low-income area, with approximately ¼ of teen mothers going on welfare within three years after their child’s birth (Link 2). As of 2012, out of the 790 births from teenage mothers, more than half, or 457 of the births mainly occurred in the Southeast DC area (Link4). This area has been plagued through various social determinants of health. This includes having repeated cycles of poverty, lack of comprehensive sexual education, especially in regards to contraception and a lot of violence occurring as a result of crimes.
