Fertility Drugs
Most men and women are raised thinking that eventually they will marry and have children. What happens when a couple gets married and wants to have a child and finds out that after several times of having unprotected sex there is no pregnancy? The finger is usually pointed at the woman but in some cases it can be due to the man. In a woman's case, the problem is usually that she is not ovulating normally and in a man's case he might have low sperm count. These are the problems that are most heard of but there are other factors that can cause infertility. An anxious couple quickly turns to science to try and find a solution to their problem. Although taking fertility drugs is the "solution", it can be quite strenuous for the couple. The couple has to submit to an emotional roller coaster , possible financial hardship, and a love life that sounds more like supply and demand. Some couples get so tied up with conceiving a child that they do not enjoy what they're doing but rather do it on demand. "Their marriages are sometimes threatened to the point of divorce."(p.16, Carr) "there is a definite relationship between infertility and stability and happiness in marriagemore than one-half of the couples who seek divorce are childless and the majority of infertile couples eventually apply for divorce."(p.16, Carr) When a couple is trying to conceive they will often have feelings of frustration and discouragement. As we see, making the decision of seeking help using fertility drugs requires that both parties be supportive of each other and really work together to achieve their goal.

Although this paper is long it does not provide nearly all the information available about infertility. This paper can be seen as tool. There's no doubt in my mind that taking fertility drugs is a very big decision. What I learned from this research is that many eager parents put their own health at risk in order to have a baby. Overall, success depends on each case individually and on the severity of your condition and age.

In his book, The Voting Wars, Richard Hasen argues that parties involved in election reform issues generally fall into one of two groups: one focused on removing any potential fraudulent votes, and the other focused on expanding voter access so as to not exclude any potential votes. Hasen works to show that most election litigation stems from this dichotomy. With the former camp is usually occupied by conservatives and the latter by progressives (though it really depends on who is winning), Hasen seems to think that the problem is this partisanship in general, and even though statistically he seems to place more blame on Republicans since 2000, Democrats are not spared his accusations. He cites examples of tactics used by both parties in campaigns that range from basic advertisements, to identification laws, to downright polling-place intimidation. But does the amount of actual election litigation and any resulting changes (or lack thereof) match the overall number of charges of fraud? Can Hasen back up his claims? After reading this book, the confidence one may have had in the legitimacy of election litigation (and the voting process as a whole) may certainly be called into question. Every day, an overwhelming amount of human beings’ lives are terminated. The culprit: unwanted pregnancies. Many woman are (not by choice), becoming pregnant as a result of unsafe sex, rape, and other things. So what is one to do when they discover that they’re pregnant? They have some alternatives: (1) have the child and raise it (2) have the child, then give it up for adoption (3) get an abortion. Sadly, many women choose alternative three, unaware of what they’re getting themselves into.

Classical conditioning and operant conditioning are different learning methods. The two methods have the word conditioning in common. What is conditioning? Conditioning is the acquisition of specific patterns of behavior in the presence of well-defined stimuli. Both classical and operant conditioning are basic forms of learning. Classical conditioning is a type of learning in which an organism learns to transfer a natural response from one stimulus to another, previously neutral stimulus. Manipulating reflexes does this. Operant conditioning is a type of learning in which the likelihood of a behavior is increased or decreased by the use of reinforcement or punishment. Operant conditioning deals with more cognitive thought process.

As a young adult, it may seem foolish to predict what your future family life will look like, especially in regards to children. With the changing of times and technology, modern electoral politics have begun using touchscreen voting machines to cast votes. These machines fail ten percent of the time and voters have reported their choices change from one candidate to the other before their eyes (Thompson). With the technical knowledge and access to the software for these machines, one person could easily change the results. One team of state approved computer hackers took on the challenge of hacking these voting machines. They were able to breach the system of practically all California’s voting machines and change results or take control of system functions (Wildermuth). Both operant and classical conditioning was used in my household. For example an act of operant conditioning was when I would ignore my chores my mom would say that I could not watch television until my chores were finished. She did this negative reinforcement to motivate me to complete my duties. However, this negative reinforcement did not encourage my brother to do his chores because he did not enjoy watching television. Because a certain consequence might not be the same for each individual, I believe that for operant conditioning to be successful the reinforcement or the consequence must correlate with the subject in order to increase or decrease a certain behavior. An example of classical conditioning in my life would be when my father opens the garage door when he arrives home. When he does this the door makes a distinct sound, and eventually my dog started to associate the sound of the garage door and his appearance. Now every time the door opens my dog gets excited expecting my father’s arrival, whether or not he is actually there. This example teaches me that my dog is experiencing classical conditioning.
