August Wilson’s “Fences” Act Two begins with Cory, Bono, and Troy are working on the fence discussing Rose’s desire for the fence. Bono is onto Troy about his affair which led to Troy admitting to the affair. Furthermore, Troy lets Rose know about the affair since he expecting a child with Alberta. Rose also had terrible news which was about Gabriel being taken away to an asylum since Troy had signed the agreement forms. Soon after, they received a phone call from the hospital that Alberta had passed away during birth, but the child still lived. Later on, Rose accepts Troy and his child in the house, but is not a servant to Troy. In Scene Four, Troy picked a fight with Cory once again, but now Cory is not afraid of his father.The years passed in Scene Five, Raynell is seven, Cory has come home from the Marines, Gabriel is released from the hospital, and Troy had passed away. …show more content…

Bono stated, “Some people build fences to keep people out… and other people build fences to keep people in. Rose wants to hold on to you all...” (Wilson, 1580). Although, Rose’s purpose of the fence was the complete opposite to Troy. Instead of wanting to keep people in, Troy wanted to block off the people in his life. As seen in Act One, Troy was mistreated as a child by his father. Since his own father was cruel and the discrimination was also a problem, he couldn’t be open with his emotion and allow for people to mistreat him.
