O Pioneers!: Feminism is Alive
Some people could say feminism has died down a lot since 1913. In Willa Cather’s O Pioneers!, feminism has a big role in it. Alexandra Bergson is a strong, courageous, independent woman.
When her father passes, he tells her to take care of the farm, instead of telling her brothers to.
They were irritated with this and tells her she can’t handle the farm because she was a woman.
She rebels against a male-controlled society. Alexandra is determined to get equality with men.
One thing that she did was, never give up, no matter how much she wanted to. Everyone told her she couldn’t do it, but she never lost faith in herself.

She put her heart and soul into it. She put all her faith in it. When everyone else was leaving the divide, and giving up, she stayed. She knew she could bring the land back and take care of it, just like her father did. She never let anyone stop her. “Getting strength and courage from her such spirit, Alexandra would never be defeated by either men or nature,” says LUI Xi (WU Yi). Alexandra even puts in mortgage and buys more land when the drought came. Her brothers did not like the idea of it, but couldn’t stop her. She saves the land and manages through the drought. This shows how Alexandra never gave up on the land and puts more faith into it than anyone else did. No one thought she could do this, because she was a woman, but like always, she proves them wrong.
Alexandra was a strong, independent, women. She did what no man thought she could do. She proves them all wrong. She rebels against a male-controlled society, wanting equality.
She never gives up, even when Carl is the only one who has faith in her. O Pioneers! is a great example of feminism. As you can see, it’s all throughout the book. In conclusion, a woman can do anything a man can. Never underestimate us
