Considering facts like global base and audience, number of professional leagues around the world, average athlete salary in top league, tv viewership numbers and rights deals, number of countries participating , endorsement and sponsorship deals, average athlete salary in top league, Social media presence, Prominence in sports headlines on media outlets (websites, tv), relevancy through the year, gender equality and the access for general public worldwide to the game, We can say football soccer is by far the most popular sport in the world with over 4 billion followers around it.

It was in 1800’s Great Britain where football was credited with recording of the first uniform and rules for the sport, including forbidding tripping opponents and touching the ball with hands. But history records trace soccer back more than 2,000 years ago to ancient China. After that it comes to Greece, Rome, and parts of Central America to also claim to have started the sport; but it was English people who actually made the transition to nowadays soccer, or what the British and many other people around the world call “football,” into the game we know today.

But it wasn´t until early XX century when women you could see women playing the game seriously in different parts of Great Britain, France and Canada.

Martha Viera is a brazilian considered the best female football player around the world. She had won five consecutive times the FIFA World Player award in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010. Also she is an olympic medallist with two silver medals on 2004 and 2008 among other awards on different professional football leagues.
