I thought that Diane Guerrero who is an American actress speech about her family’s deportation was interesting. She recently appeared on an immigration themed of Chelsea handler’s talk show. Guerrero is the citizen daughter of immigrant parents. Guerrero mentioned how her family was taken away from her when she was just 14 years old. “Not a single person at any level of government took any note of me. No one checked to see if i had a place to live or food to eat, and at 14, i found myself basically on my own”, Guerrero added. Luckily, Guerrero had good friends to help her. She told handler how her family try to become legal but there were no sign or help. Her parents lost their money to scammers who they believed to be a lawyer. When her family’s

Isabella Baumfree, otherwise known as Sojourner Truth, was born to James and Elizabeth Baumfree as a slave around 1797 in Ulster County, New York. She was a slave of a Dutch family, the Hardenberghs, but once her owner died, she was sold at an auction for the first time to a Englishman, John Neely. Since she could only speak Dutch while Neely spoke English, it was difficult for them to communicate and as a result, Neely would constantly beat her brutally. She had suffered as a slave such as being spit on, threatened, and beaten aggressively to the point that she had scars on her body, blood trickling down from her body, and many wounds.
Mich Landrieu’s speech that he delivered to the public on May 19th, 2017, was a beautiful speech written and expressed by him about the removal of the four monuments within the city of New Orleans. This message was given by the Mayor due to racist comments of these statues and Landrieu expressed in his speech the true history of the city. For some of the people of New Orleans, they thought these statues were the identity of the city and a celebration of confederacy, however, African Americans took offense to the statues. The mayor effectively uses logos, pathos, and ethos to persuade his audience that taking down these confederate monuments is what needs to be done. Confederacy and the widespread demonstrations found many in other southern states as well discussing different monuments and their meanings. .Bill Golash, a gentleman interviewed from Richmond, Virginia said “I love the city of Richmond and I want to see us grow” (Raddatz). This statement reaches out to many of the issues being faced with decisions of change and Golosh echoing we can’t change
Telémakhos calls a town meeting and gives a speech about how he needs help from the town to expel the suitors from his house. In the town meeting he discusses his plan to go search for his father and bring him home assuming he is still alive. If his father is not still alive, then his mother will give her hand in marriage. In the meeting he ask for volunteers to be part of his crew on this adventure. Once he finishes with his speech he is mocked by a suitor causing the rest of the town to think him a fool.
Today I’am Writing about Baton Rouge Louisiana because it’s a Historical/College town grown over a poor neighborhood with lots of intensions. Baton Rouge Louisiana is Very Nice and Loving place and what’s better it’s a state Capital. I’ve never visited a state capital so it would be fun to explorer this wonderful place with wonderful things to share and Learn About. Did you know that Baton Rouge was visited by the Marquisde Lafayette as part of his triumphant tour of the United States and the town made him the quest of honor at a banquette and ball to celebrate the Occasion?
One could say that the way both authors approached the theme in their writing styles was almost secretive. Yet, the theme that they develop in long run tells an important life lesson. The commencement speech given by Mary Schmich, and the poem given by Max Ehrmann both seem to be simple compilations of helpful advice, but both share an underlying theme that runs through the two pieces thoroughly. The two pieces both express to have your own opinion and awareness even if others are different.
Elizabeth Glaser, co-founder of the Pediatric AIDS foundation, was infected with the AIDS virus during a blood transfusion when she was giving birth to her first child. Her daughter became quite ill in 1985 and after several tests and treatments the entire family was tested for the human immunodeficiency virus. Elizabeth, her daughter, Ariel, and her son, Jake, all tested positive. She then went to Washington D.C. to help fight AIDS and raise awareness for the cause. She met with several influential politicians, activists, and first ladies including President Reagan, Nancy Reagan, and Barbara Bush to discuss ways to improve HIV care and research. She worked with congress and raised the budget to help fight pediatric AIDS from 3.3 million to
Melania Trump Has something about her whether its her confidence or her beauty that just captures the attention of me and every one else. Before we get into Melania lets talk about how Trump walked out to we are the champions. I have been listening to people talk about this being pissed off. He hasn't even won the election and he's cocky. What they fail to understand is that this was the republican national convention he's not saying he won the election he won the republican ticket. Also I can see how this cocky attitude could be getting a little annoying He could be a little more humble. Melania is a very good speaker and started off her speech with talking about they're love for our country. Melania then began talking about how her love
Hi Pamela, it is nice to meet you. I thank you for being so in-depthed about the knowledge that we just received about immigration. It is amazing to see other cultures come from one extreme form of lifestyle, then settle and make great contribution to this country. I was also intrigued about how Americans flew the Cubans in to be in partnership to help build this country, but on the other hand laws tried to hold them hostage from their families until they thought it was their duty to allow them to return to their country.
Few people are fearless speakers. As students, we generally feel the rumble of butterflies in our stomachs, but the most we have to lose is a good grade.
she is only 16-year-old from an Islamic country leading the first vital step towards raising the status of women in the Arab region is undoubtedly laudable. Indeed, she deserves to be called an ideal person of all girls in the world, who fight against any obstacles that abuse women’s individual rights. She is raising confidence to all girls and urging them to speak out what they want to be and ask for what they should have
In Search of Fatima (2002) is a powerful story of family and belonging told from the perspective of the author, Ghada Karmi. Ghada was born near the beginning of the conflict in Palestine, which eventually forced her family to move to Syria and then to England. Even before the violence begins, Ghada’s childhood is not easy—due to her frequently absent mother, she often turns to her family’s servant, Fatima, for stability and guidance. As Ghada describes her, Fatima is, during her Palestinian years, like a rock in her family’s life. The conflict, however, quickly turns their beloved home into an unrecognizable place, and for safety reasons, they must flee.
As an Arab American, a Muslim and a woman writer, Mohja Kahf challenges the stereotypes and misrepresentation of Arab and Muslim women. Her style is always marked by humor, sarcasm, anger and confrontation. “The Marvelous Women,” “The Woman Dear to Herself,” “Hijab Scene #7” and “Hijab Scene #5” are examples of Kahf’s anger of stereotypes about Muslim women and her attempts to fight in order to eradicate them, in addition to her encouragement to women who help her and fight for their rights.
“A single speech, at a very opportunistic time, at the Oscar Ceremony, resulted in the largest increase in public engagement with climate change ever,” said John Ayers of San Diego State University. Leonardo DiCaprio used his acceptance speech for the Oscar as a platform to make people aware of his cause.
