In The Odyssey the father and son relationships are very important. Ten years after the fall of Troy, the victorious Greek hero Odysseus has still not returned to his native town, Ithaca. The goddess Athena, appears in disguise and urges Odysseus' son Telemachus to seek news of his father at Pylos and Sparta. While Telemachus is on his way to Pylos, Odysseus starts on his way home. He then, gets trapped by the Cyclops, while Odysseus is in captivity, he manages to blind the monster and escape. After Odysseus returns to Troy, his son, Telemachus, who also returned, helps him kill the suitors who tried to take his wife. Odysseus stabs Poseidon’s son in the eye while escaping and makes him blind. Poseidon seeks revenge for his son by breaking Odysseus’ boat. When the Cyclops gets blinded it makes Poseidon mad, so being a good dad, he is he protected his son. Cyclops also rely on his dad for helping him out, which shows that he trusts his father. The Greeks admire how the father would defend their son like that. This also shows that a son will trust his father and rely on his help instead of doing it all alone.
Odysseus and Telemachus have a special father and son relationship. Telemachus helps his father to redeem himself and to prove himself to his wife, Penelope. Telemachus hides gear for both of them and they go and kill off all of the suitors. Also Odysseus had to be a good father, I know that because Telemachus went to find Odysseus and risked his life for him. The Greeks love how his son loved him so much he risked his life.
Odysseus and Telemachus and Poseidon and the Cyclops all have special son and dad relationships. When the Greeks hear the story about how the gods had a good relationship with their son the Greeks want to be the same with their kids.
