Rylee Chambers Government and Politics Idaho Farm Bureau Federation “Idaho Farm Bureau Federation is a free, independent, non-governmental, voluntary organization of farm and ranch families united for the purpose of analyzing their problems, and formulating action to achieve educational improvement, economic opportunity, and social advancement and thereby, to promote the national well-being.” It was founded in 1939 in Murtaugh, Idaho and was chartered under the laws of Idaho in May of that year as an independent farm organization. This federation is dedicated to strengthening agriculture and protecting the rights, values, and property of members and their neighbors. That money goes directly to the county, state and national levels so that they can continue to do what they love to do. They also rely on generous donors for some of their funding. Doing this is how they get money for things like the plastic cow, the wheat module, the trailer to take around and teach, and helping fund different places around the community and county. The board members from the county bureau come together every month for a meeting to discuss different issues. According to Marjorie, not as many people come to these meetings during the summer months because there are so many people out on the farm. The Young Farmers and Ranchers program (YF&R) is for farmers that are ages 18 to 35. Being a member of this program helps young farmers participate in legislative activities, membership acquisition and maintenance, commodity promotion, local affairs, political education and action, policy development and execution, local affairs, and in other affiliated companies. The Farm Bureau Women’s Committee helps to empower women as strong leaders in agriculture. Some of their goals include agricultural education, leadership, organization, political education and public affairs, consumer understanding, media and information, and policy development.
