The twins represent the decline of the Aristocracy. Madeline and Rodrick Usher both have an illness that will lead to death; the end of the old family. Madiline usher has an illness that causes parallases and Rodrick has a "fear illeness" . Rodrick and madelines illnensses represent the "illness" or flaw of aristocracy.
