This week’s guest speaker came and spoke to the class on more of a spiritual and religious aspect of how it is to be a change agent in our community. Our guest speaker this week was Christ Breedlove; Chris currently holds his Ph.D. along with this bachelors and masters degree as well. Chris is also a local Fresno pastor of the church called Community UCC. This church is a growing church where their pastor is a strong advocate of practicing social justice throughout the city of Fresno to help make a positive difference in this city that we all live in. Chris and the Community UCC church is also apart of organization called Faith in Community (FIC). Faith and Community is a community of local churches in Fresno that join together to help make a difference in not only their church community but in the Fresno community as well. Faith in Community focuses on the spiritual and justice issues. They look at the cultural social aspect of injustices and they address the problem. Chris mentions how it is a little difficult sometimes playing the two roles because it is not common and sometimes not encouraged in churches to include politics in the church setting. However, Chris mentions something that he calls ‘prophetic ministry’. Prophetic ministry is basically practicing what you preach. He made a good point in how has a pastor, it is easy to stand in front of a congregation and preach and teach about justice, but what is the church doing to act on it. With the help of the congregation, Chris finds it a little easier to practice his political side because his church backs him up on the causes throughout the
