Philosophy of Faith Based Psychology Faith based psychology can mean different things to different people. Some say that Christian psychology is a merger of theology and psychology and that it is an aspect of psychology that adheres to the religion of Christianity and the teachings of Jesus Christ to explain the human mind and behavior. Our text book tells us “Christian counseling, …, may be defined as a triadic healing encounter with the living Christ, facilitated by a helper who assists this redemptive, healing process, helping another get unstuck and moving forward on the path to spiritual maturity and psycho-social-emotional health.” (Clinton, Hart, & Ohlschlager, 2005, p. 16)

A counselor that knows God and is able to listen to what God tells them will be able to show their clients how God wants them to heal. Being forgiven by God is something that most people desire before their life is over, Christian counselors will be able to show their clients how to achieve this before the end of their lifetime by showing them what the bible says and by speaking to them what God has spoken to them. “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. If a person wanted to be purely a Christian counselor, it would be a good idea to start out with being a lay counselor at their church and build a practice in that way because they would already be connected to people who are comfortable with the openness of Christianity. The other option would be to only advertise to Christian clients and not be willing to accept people that are not believers. I do not completely believe that this would be a good idea because Jesus tells us to bring followers to him so by working as a Christian in the secular world we would have more opportunity to bring people to the Kingdom of God.
There are a few ways that a Christian counselor could work in the secular word. By accepting patients of all beliefs, being patient and loving and demonstrating the faithfulness of Christ a lot more people would have the opportunity to be healed. I feel that one would not have to separate being a Christian and being a counselor. I feel that by working to build one’s own relationship with Christ and listening to what God is telling them it will make a person a better counselor and would have a better opportunity to show Christ’s
