The Industrial Revolution was a time of immense change and invention, especially in European countries. It brought about mind-altering ideas and allowed inventors and their creations to flourish. The Industrial Revolution positively impacted society as it allowed cities and trade to grow, allowed for invention of new technology, and revolutionized the efficiency of product production. It was at the time of the Industrial Revolution that there was a significant migration from the majority of the population working as farmers to many people leaving their farms to work in the cities. This first began in the industrialization of various industries, and came about due to the factory system. Mentioned above, the factory system replaced domestic means of production, ensuring that every end product was close to identical in quality and appearance. Before the product was inconsistent because different people were making and going through each step in producing the goods, and merchants would have to depend on factors such as skill and time efficiency in order to get a consistent and well-made product. Sometimes the delivery of the finished product would be late, incomplete, or of poor quality. Implementing the factory system changed that, as the workers could be supervised. Instead of having people scattered in different locations workers would now gather in a single workplace environment where their employers would be able to supervise the production of their goods. Each person would do a single, repetitive step that contributed to the end product's making. They was called an assembly line, an idea first used during the Industrial Revolution. Many modern day productions are still based on the original assembly line and factory system, but many of the jobs that were required to be done by hand are now completed with machines for less of a cost. The factory system greatly improved the productivity on making the end result, alongside with new technologies developed in the Industrial Revolution such as the steam engine. Employers loved the factory system but it was not always great for the workers. Working conditions were often poor, the work was hard and long hours added up to many health problems for the employees. A surplus of people in need of a job made workers disposable and as such, were often let go if they claimed or were too damaged to continue on with their jobs.
