Controversies exist within science because the world is full of differing perspectives and ideas. One of my favorite children’s movies was Hoodwinked because it told the story of Little Red Riding Hood through the perspectives of every character involved in the plot, so we were able to experience each person’s true motives and individual assessment of what really happened to the stolen baked goods. It’s captivating because the same is true of real life. People bring with them their histories, values, morals, knowledge, and priorities, which all have some influence on the way they see the world and how they handle different situations. People have their own experiences, values, and ideas that help contribute to and shape their perspectives, …show more content…
On one hand, there are people who believe that there is alien life elsewhere in the universe or that there is the possibility for alien life to exist. On the other hand, there are people who believe that alien life cannot exist and never will. Within these categories, there are more subgroups. Starting with the groups of people who believe aliens can exist are the people who believe the world has already encountered extraterrestrials. A well known theory regarding extraterrestrial existence is the ancient astronaut theory proposed by Erich von Däniken (1968). This theory suggests extraterrestrial beings assisted humans with technological advancements and the creation of various landmarks all over the world thousands of years ago, including the Pyramids of Giza, the Stonehenge, and the Moái Heads of Easter Island (von Däniken, 1968, p. 42). Branching off this theory is the Hypothesis of Creation, which states that humans evolve by genetic mutation, by being either descendants as genetic hybrids of proto-humans and extraterrestrials, who landed on Earth hundreds of thousands of years ago (Burns, 2011). They also believe the majority of creation myths are true, however all Gods, Goddesses, deities, and other primordial beings involved were actually extraterrestrial beings who were seemingly Gods in appearance and power (von Däniken, …show more content…
Many times regular objects have been mistaken for UFOs, such as the famous Roswell encounter when a crashed weather balloon was thought to be the remains of an extraterrestrial spacecraft in Roswell, New Mexico (History.com Staff, 2009). At the 2012 London olympics, a Goodyear blimp was even mistaken as a UFO above the stadium, and it was hired to be there (Nelson, 2012). From blurry UFO photos to wild accusations of little green men probing people’s minds for experimentation, the theorization of alien life from space has been repeatedly critiqued and
Recently, many people believed to have witnessed via a viral video, U.F.O. unidentified flying object sighting directly above the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem, Israel, yet solid research quickly disproved this occurrence as another contemporary hoax. Sightings such as this one date back to June 24th, 1947, when Kenneth Arnold reportedly saw a “flying saucer” (Dash). There are many people around the world, who believe wholeheartedly in unidentified flying objects. Moreover, when Mr. Arnold made his claim of seeing a U.F.O., there were many futile arguments between believers and non-believers. Nowadays however, thanks to modern technology, people can record the alleged sighting by means such as video and still pictures.
All of these definitions are exact and significant to this research because sometimes it is obvious people are unaware of the true meanings of these words. The meanings of extraterrestrials and aliens have been commonly misinterpreted. An extraterrestrial is something, living or nonliving, which is not from earth, while an alien can be something from earth, but is not native to its surroundings. An unidentified flying object is something that has never been officially recorded. In this case, the witnesses refer to th...
Some believe that in 1947 a UFO crashed in Roswell, New Mexico. This crash is believed by many to be the reason for the creations of area 51 and has remained the front and center of all controversies since the inception of area 51, one cannot talk about area 51 without mentioning the crash in Roswell. Some local’s from Roswell claim they witnessed the removal of debris and suspect that it was a flying saucer. Adding to this suspicion, the Army Air Corps initially announce that the wreckage was that of a “flying saucer”, only to later retract their statement, and instead c...
This perception results from a combination of personal experience and social integration. Kurtz argues that there are “two kinds of values within human experience [...] values rooted in unexamined feelings, faith, custom, or authority [...] and values that are influenced by cognition and informed by rational inquiry” (73). He reveals that one can base his values on either intangible beliefs, or on logical exploration, and suggests that the latter one is more correct. However, what is right or wrong is a matter of cultural interpretation, and what is wise today may not be wise tomorrow. Subsequently, it is the way we use scientific findings that matters more than what those findings actually are. In the cloning example, the only reason safety was considered an issue is because of the belief that we should not harm a human, given that we perceive our lives to be special. Even so, Galileo was persecuted and Giordano Bruno was burnt at the stake for suggesting that the earth goes round the sun and not vice versa. This is common knowledge now, having had our notions evolve with science, but it does not change the way the two of them, along with many others, were treated for going against the doctrine of their time. This proves that science does influence the way we factually look at things (eventually) but that we still use it according to our deeply rooted beliefs, creating divisions and tensions amongst our own
The UFO crash site in Roswell New Mexico in 1947 was the start of people’s interest in extraterrestrials, the discovery of military secrets and experiments kept from society, and the start, in search of answering are we alone in this universe.
Ever look up at the sky and just wonder if there is life anywhere else? Have you seen anything in the sky that is almost unexplainable? What if your thoughts really came true? The thought of the existence of aliens seems to have been around since the beginning of time. There is one incident in particular that really hits home when talking about the subject, the UFO incident of Roswell, New Mexico.
A majority of all religions believe in creationism. Creationism is the belief that everything that we see around us today was created by a God or Gods in order for people to live ...
A UFO fell in Roswell New Mexico in late June or early July in 1947. The day after a fierce thunderstorm, rancher W. W. “Mack” Brazel went out with his son on horses to go check on sheep. While he was out riding, he noticed strange metal debris scattered over a large part of his ranch. As he inspected the land, he saw a huge trench several hundred feet long gouged out of the earth. He decided to gather some the unusual material he saw and took it back home with him to ...
Reports of extraterrestrial encounters have been around since the dawn of human civilization. Some cultures considered extraterrestrials to be their gods (Sitchin 59). A lot of legends and myths originated from sightings of unidentified flying objects. In ancient times, experiencing a close encounters was a mystical and yet terrifying random experience. Today, all the close encounters recorded throughout human history can be classified into one of the eight kinds.
The existence of life – Aliens, beyond our planet has been a controversial topic for several centuries, and is a debatable issue even today in the 21st century. What is our topic you may ask? Aliens, Do, Exist. According to theoretical physicist, Stephen Hawking, it would be improbable for life not to exist somewhere other than Earth. This is a bold claim, but there is evidence to support this statement. The evidence we seek is in the many Alien occurrences we have experienced throughout human history.
Is there such thing as life outside of Earth? The building blocks of life are carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen. Those ingredients condense to form all living things, new stars and even new planets! So, who’s to say those ingredients didn’t form other life on other planets? Think about how vast outer space is. There are millions and millions of other planets, stars and galaxies! It’s not that far out there to think that there might be other life in space, in fact, some people even have stone hard evidence that supports the idea of “aliens”. I personally believe there is such thing as extraterrestrials, and I believe they have visited earth before. As a child, I remember my dad and I would sit around all afternoon watching alien documentaries or shows about people hunting aliens and searching for UFOs. When it comes to aliens people have so many questions; have aliens been to earth before? Are they currently living on earth? Are they controlling us? Does the government know? If so, are they hiding it from the public? There are so many questions you can ask but, in order to answer them, you have to
There are numerous of different movies, books, and TV shows on how humans think aliens interact, look similar to, and what the media portrays aliens to be like. Occasionally, most will stumble across news articles with a variety of related headings about aliens, UFO’s, or recent known abduction stories. Every person has their own theories and or thoughts on these basic questions: do aliens exist? Could the government be covering up real life “space ships” or encounters? Countless folks have claimed to witness or have fanciful stories that have fascinated countless while several others are turned away. There are Videos, pictures and pieces of physical evidence to support nearly all of these stories. Even more alarming,
Whether or not the Roswell incident truly involved a UFO remains unclear. How ever, the military cover-up only served to fuel the fire of our imaginations. Interest continues to grow, as questions remain unanswered. Even Bill Clinton has been quoted as saying “…If the United States Air Force did recover alien bodies, they didn’t tell me about it either, and I want to know”(qtd. in Wright 105).
However, it is all subject to interpretation, as it has not been validated. Evidence used to support the ancient alien theory can be found all over the world in ancient geoglyphs, art, sculptures, architecture and text. A mesmerizing topic that has captivated millions of people, Ancient Aliens brings to life the possibility that we are not alone in the cosmos and gives us a new perspective on life existing beyond our planet by looking within our very own past history and civilizations. Erich Von Daniken, one of the main figures responsible for popularizing the ancient astronaut hypotheses, has written twenty-six books referencing his theories on ancient aliens.
Do aliens exist? For eons, mankind has pondered over this peculiar question and a revealing truth has yet to be answered. However, one thing is known for sure, the discovery of intelligent alien life outside of Earth would provide support to prove and/or disprove fundamental beliefs that have been held for centuries. In any case, the discovery would serve as a cornerstone for humanity to make the quantum leap in understanding the purpose of our existence. Based on numerous examples, it is impossible to deny the existence of extraterrestrial life outside of Earth. Reportings of sightings, ancient civilizations beliefs, and scientific proof from scientists and astronomers are all key factors that contribute to this statement.
