Exploring Why Japan lost to the Allies in World War 2 Abstract ======== The aim of this IB essay is to investigate and determine how Japan was defeated by the Allies in World War 2. Information was gathered from some internet sources, extracts from magazines and text books. This essay explores the argument of why Japan lost the War to the Allies. Also the main argument is whether or not the atomic bomb was used justly and whether Japan would’ve surrendered anyway. The conclusion draws the arguments together and finally states the reasons of the surrender of Japan in order of importance and that the Atomic bomb usage was not justified. Main Body ========= Japan surrendered to the allies for a number of reasons. However some facts were a lot more important than others and these facts were important in the defeat of Japan. Japan entered the war with limited aims and with the intention of fighting a limited war. Its principle objectives were to secure the resources of South East Asia. This was Japan’s original strategy. It shows that at the time, Japan were not altogether ready for the war. Now as the war progressed, Japan had a different aim. They wanted to destroy or neutralize American striking power in the Pacific-the U.S. Pacific fleet at Pearl Harbour and the U.S. Far East Force in the Philippines[1]. One of the biggest mistakes that Japan made was to attack the Americans at Pearl Harbour. This made America enter the war. As I already said, the war was an industrial war and because America had many resources and modern weapons, Japan was at a disadvantage as they had fewer weapons.
