Human What is being human are we supposed to somehow be perfect without flaws or can we be a little imperfect? Are we humans not permitted to show weakness, do we need to act more like machines with no flaws in them? Christina Perri’s song “Human” from her Head or Heart album, refers to being able to admit your defaults and allows you to accept them without changing yourself. The song “Human” by Christina Perri uses repetition, connotation, symbolism and metaphor to reveal show that we’re human that have faults, furthermore we cannot be expected to always be 100 percent perfect without faults and we should not change for anyone. Is when the singer makes specific words have so much emotion that you realize what’s going on without searching for the meaning of the song. Because we can feel the emotions throughout the song from resignation, sadness and then realization. The first few lines tell us that she will do whatever she needs to make that person happy with her. “I can hold my breath/I can bite my tongue/I can stay awake for days/If that 's what you want/Be your number one ”(1-5). In these lines we feel like she has given up on herself and is willing to make herself be someone, she is not. Then after we feel her sadness as she says “I can dance and play the part/If that 's what you ask/Give you all I am” (8-9). Christina is making us feel desperation as she is singing these lines, because she says we must play the role we are given to the best we can. Suddenly, she realizes that’s not her, she cannot do everything because she is a human being. “But I’m only human” (14). She is not defined by all things we do or how perfect we must become and recognize by that somebody. Another key moment would be when she sings “I can take so much/ Until I’ve had enough” (39-40). Perri is over being walk-on by anyone telling her that she needs the approval of that person, she will no longer become someone she’s not. Symbolism is when the singer makes a word or phrases stand for something entirely, while metaphor is when the singer refers to doing something without physically doing it .We see them as she is telling us that she wants to please others as well as not want to trample by others. She no longer wants to act like someone she is not. Instead, she admits that she 's flawed, but won’t continue to play a role. “I can do it/ But I’m only human/ And I bleed when I fall down” (13-15). She drills, these lines in us to make us realize it’s okay to admit being flawed, and break down instead of acting as nothing has happened. The song wants us to understand that we are human and even though we want to please everyone, yet there will be people who won 't approve. Instead, we should in praise ourselves as we are with all the flawless in the world and not listen to others that wants us to follow suit and be nothing more than a machine that does as told. Rather, then please others, we accept and be brave in this world and not be discouraged by what others say we should act or look. There is only one metaphor in this song, but it’s the most powerful of all because it’s something that we do not want to admit. “Your words in my head, knives in my heart” (18). Basically we hear what others say about us, yet we do not want to admit that the words are painful for us to hear. Instead, we grin and nod as if nothing happen,
