Everybody comes from somewhere, even the rich and famous. Donald Trump is no different than anyone else, in this case anyway. The second youngest in his family, Donald John Trump was born on June 14, 1946 to Mary Anne and Fred Trump in Queens, New York. Trump is best known throughout America and the world for his incredibly successful business ventures including Trump Tower and The Apprentice. The first job that Trump had was working for his parents in real estate, a job at which he was very successful. Trump eventually moved on to bigger and better things, purchasing the Plaza Hotel in New York as well as attempting to start his own airline. Despite Trump having never held any political office previously and not clearly expressing his solutions in the early debates, he leapt out to a commanding lead at the beginning of the race and continues to hold a significant margin of victory. Trump’s advantage in appearance comes from having tangible evidence of how good he is at what he does. When people see Donald Trump they see his buildings, his money, his television shows, and they listen when they hear the man worth billions of dollars promising great things for America’s future. Trump has built many businesses from the ground up, as early as 1984. Wohl creates a timeline of Trump’s major achievements: “Opens $250-million Harrah's hotel-casino in Atlantic City. Opens second casino there, Trump's Castle, the following year” (14). Trump has fixed many businesses and buildings over his lifetime: “Trump bought the former Chicago Sun-Times headquarters in 2005 for $73 million...was named Travel+Leisure’s best large city hotel in North America in 2010.”(Koffler). People want America to be Trump’s next great success. If someone is looking at another candidate, he or she will hear the senator, governor, or congressman’s name in association with a bill or other piece of legislation. Donald Trump’s personality is loud, rambunctious, and in some cases, downright rude, but it makes people listen to him. Despite the massive amounts of controversy surrounding Trump and some of the comments he has made, he is still leading in the polls. Trump would not even be in contention for presidential candidate if his idea to ban Muslims or build a wall unless a large number of people felt similarly. Despite what people are arguing about on the television, in the newspapers, and over radio, Trump’s numbers are still climbing. While Trump delivers his statements in a very unconventional way, he must be saying the right things. Trump is saying things that most people do not feel comfortable saying so people respond by showing their support despite how questionable some of the statements may seem. Donald Trump completely ignores the standards of political correctness and says what he wants, according to Scherer, “Then in early December he made his next move, an extraordinary call to bar all Muslims from entering the U.S.” (14). Not all of what Trump says is aimed to insult races and religions though. His campaign slogan “Make America Great Again” is aimed at every American’s sense of nationalism.
