The Salvation Army is an advocate for fighting against human trafficking that are for sexual and labor purposes. The founders are Catherine and William Booth who founded this church organization in 1865 in London, England. I believe they relate to the United States as a hegemony because the Booths were different than other churches. They took their ministry to London's east side streets which were very dangerous. The United States helps other countries to succeed by risking their own lives or the safety of the country to help. The Booths efforts started a mission for the rest of the generations in this organization which includes protecting women and children from sex trafficking. The Salvation Army's efforts did not stop there. Right now
The nonprofit sector in America is a reflection some of the foundational values that brought our nation into existence. Fundamentals, such as the idea that people can govern themselves and the belief that people should have the opportunity to make a difference by joining a like-minded group, have made America and its nonprofit sector what it is today. The American "civil society" is one that has been produced through generations of experiments with government policy, nonprofit organizations, private partnerships, and individuals who have asserted ideas and values. The future of the nonprofit sector will continue to be experimental in many ways. However, the increase of professional studies in nonprofit management and the greater expectation of its role in society is causing executives to look to more scientific methods of management.
On Thursday October 31st, I attended a public service class where the professor had invited two spokesmen from the ‘National Coalition for the Homeless’ to share their personal stories and what the public can do to help.
The hardships of the Great Depression of the early part of the twentieth century lead to many drastic decisions by our countries leaders on how to deal with the problem. Franklin Delano Roosevelt, President of the United States at the time, decided to infiltrate the country with government money to create jobs and better the country as a whole. The Civilian corps">Conservation Corps, or CCC created many of these jobs.

In 2013, the Omaha Ronald McDonald House recycled around 35 million pop tabs donated by local schools, businesses, organizations, and families. Additionally, the chapter holds various fundraisers throughout the year, open to public participation. The Salvation Army prides itself in continuously offering needs based programs or service to communities that fall below the poverty line. The Salvation Army has a wide array of strengths including: 1) Professional networking; a channel through which ideas, resources and services can be exchanged between Salvation Army and other non-profit organizations 2) Global notoriety; the Salvation Army is a world-wide organization, sustained primarily through government funds and public donations 3) Longevity; a demonstrated history of success. This history of longevity affords them a positive, solid reputation in participating communities (The Salvation Army USA, 2018).
The Salvation Army uses the Aristotelian appeals, ethos, logos, and pathos to convince the audience that donating to their company will provide hope to underprivileged people around the world. Utilizing the image of distressed children for provides the use of pathos, logical facts for logos, and their company’s creditability for ethos. Affecting the advertisement the most dramatically, is the idea that donating to the Salvation Army is a way to give hope to individuals who are affected from natural disasters. Visually, a young boy is holding another young boy, who is most likely, his brother in his arms. Covered in dirt and cuts, the boys are also wearing tattered and ripped clothing. In addition the boys have no shoes, showing their damaged dirty feet. A bottle on the side near the boys has dirty water in it, displaying the idea of no clean drinking water. Correspondently, the children are sleeping on dirty stairs showing they are homeless with no food, clean water, and no clean clothing. On the bottom right corner of the ad there is the Salvation Army logo. Near the bottom there is the contact information to donate and learn more about the charity. Similarity, there is also a small memo describing what the donation provides to individuals in natural disasters and what they will receive from the Salvation Army. For example, it provides emotional support and helps the injured and heartbroken people. In bold font “Giving Hope Today”, is written on the advertisement, providing the idea that donation to the Salvation Army is more than just providing necessary support and needs to individuals affected by natural disasters, but it provides hope and a future.
Most non-profit organizations’ purpose is to improve the local community and society. The purpose of a small business is to make a profit by providing a service or selling a product. This purpose is what drives the employees/volunteers and usually there is a difference in how we work when we are just earning a paycheck as compared to when we work toward a cause we believe in.
The Samaritans and Jews had a long hatred and disgust for each other in ancient times. A Samaritan is a person who believes in God but doesn’t worship in Israel; also they only believed in parts of the Pentateuch (Torah) in their time.
"I work off and on. Mostly day work is all there is. Used to be a teacher. I'd like to find a good job, but how? When you're on the street, you've got one set of clothes, two if you're lucky, and they're always dirty. No place to shave, shower, clean up. And any job that's decent will ask for an address, phone number, a driver's license. It's hard to break out of the cycle and into focus. " --Mark (a homeless person)
The definition of “charity” is different for everyone. Charity could mean to give their own time to help others in need to be selfless, it could also mean a form of making money, or it can also be a way to get community service hours. Going along the lines of people’s different perceptions of charity, there are many reasons on why you should and could do charity work. There are many different types of charity. In 2015, the top three charities in the US are United Way, The Salvation Army, and Feeding America.
Homelessness is everywhere, it is not a new trend and is a growing problem. Many people ask themselves should I help the homeless or not; it is easier to just ignore the problem than to give a helping hand. Every person needs help at one point or another in their life and homeless people should be no different. Assisting the homeless with healthcare, housing, and childcare are ways people are able to and should help the homeless.
Currently, the Gwinnett Children 's Shelter houses about thirty kids and teens, ages twelve to nineteen. Unfortunately, the majority of the kids in the shelter have been abused in some way or another and others may have been in the Juvenile Court System before. Each child who is a part of the shelter has the opportunity to meet with a counselor about every two weeks, but almost every time the kids have to meet with a new counselor. The reason being, the shelter currently uses an on-call counseling service and whichever counselor is on-call is the one that sees the children that day. This is a huge problem because the kids have faced so much inconsistency in their lives and have nobody that they can truly trust and the one person they are supposed to be able to open up to is their counselor. However, it is hard to build a trusting relationship if every two weeks they have to tell their story to another random counselor. I propose that the Gwinnett Children 's Shelter hire two part-time staffed counselors instead of hiring an on-call service.

The Charity Organization Society was based in the scientific movement of organizations. Workers believed that charity work needed more definition and organization and that charity should be focused more on individual need rather than as a whole population. Focusing on individual need was intended to improve relief operations while making resources more efficient. They also intended to eliminate public outdoor relief. With the promotion of more organization and efficiency the new Charity Organization Societies were born. Trattner states that these new requirements for organization and efficiency spread so “rapidly that within 6 years 25 cities had such organizations and by the turn of the century there were some 138 of them in existence” (Trattner, 1999).
