From generation to generation, family traditions are passed down and so are personal points of view. For instance, in Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird, Atticus Finch expresses his feeling towards black people, which influences, Jem’s, his son’s decision about them. Children are accustomed to believing what older members of their family’s beliefs are because that is their only reference point in attempting to understand the world and they feel family is more trustworthy. As a result of this, children enter the world with ideas and beliefs that are not original. Another thing is that people do notn't like change. We are used to being told what is right and what is wrong and nothing will change our minds about that. We as humans can be told what to do and not do, but we usually learn by doing. Unfortunately, we do the same with humans when categorizing people based on similarities such as race. Negative encounters in life influence our decisions about what made the situation unfavorable and we group anything with similarities into a category.
