Honor is a characteristic some people have, not everyone has it. Individuals have their own perspectives on what they find as “honorable”. Throughout several stories, honor is described in numerous ways, but at the end of them all, they share a common sense for what honor means. Multiple stories define how the authors taking in what it means to be honorable through the actions of their characters and how they act in society. Each character from the different stories demonstrates the honorable characteristic, for example, “Autumn Rose”, a short story by Kevin Kyung. Likewise, in “Rule of the Game” by Amy Tan, she demonstrates honor from a young girl and her passion for the game of chess. An additional piece called, The Great Gatsby by F. In The Great Gatsby, one of the main characters, Nick, demonstrates honor by being “...inclined to reserve all judgment...” (Fitzgerald 1) . Demonstrating honor by not judging people based off of their first impressions, they respect the time it takes to actually get to know people. When people respect others they are kind and helpful to others. In A Raisin in the Sun, the author uses Mama, the matriarch of the family, to explain how helping others demonstrates honor because, “... she can always take a few thousand and help…”(Hansberry 37). Respecting others and being kind and helpful to other people is a big characteristic of being honorable.. Respecting others and is not the only way to represent honor, people can respect hobbies they enjoy doing. When individuals honor their interests, they “... add new secrets” (Tan 5) into their understanding of that hobby. For example in the “Rules of the Game” the protagonist honors the way of chess. People value their time learning more about the topic and when people honor or respect an occupation, they tend to the time it takes to learn about that interest. By doing so, it explains how when people take they time to learn something new, they demonstrate honor. On the contrary, Walt Disney was the exact opposite of being honorable. He saw the negativity in people, and then acted upon that.
