In Chronicle of a Death Foretold honor is the main theme and everything ties into honor because it is shown multiple times throughout the book. The characters display characteristics of dishonestly which shows a lack of integrity and honor. When Bayardo discovers that Angela is claiming to have lost her virginity prior to her marriage to him, he gets upset and returns Angela back to her family. As soon as she returned to her family, they ask her who she had been with prior to the marriage to Bayardo. Angela quickly responds with a supposed name of the perpetrator that she had been with previously. This information get the family fired up and her twin brother set off to murder this obscure person that was named. They proceed to search the town for Santiago and willingly tell everyone they meet that they intended to kill the man. This is accepted by the community because they believed that honor should to be restored to the family by …show more content…

In the book, Angela convinces both Bayardo and her family that Santiago took her virginity and they decide that the only way to restore honor back to their family was to do away with Santiago. The beginning of the story seems to indicate that the town was very religious and they were looking forward to the Bishop coming into town, These religious people would seem to live according to their convictions. I find it interesting how a community full of so called Christian people would it justifiable to murder to restore honor to Angela’s family. They were more interested in seeing the Bishop arrive then to focus their attention on a potential murder. The continued house to house to find this innocent that was falsely accused of taking Angela’s virginity and every seemed to be okay with it. Honor seemed to outweigh their convictions for their own moral and
