The most outstanding theme in the movie Spirited Away is greed. Examples of this are Ubaba, her parents, and the bathhouse. This can be shown in many various ways. The best example is Ubaba, because of her avarice, longing and stinginess. The main chapter of her parents representing greed is when they find the amusement park and start gorging themselves with food. The bathhouse shows greed throughout the film, but the most prominent example of this is when no-face visits the bathhouse and showers everyone with gold. These are some noticeable themes of greed in Spirited Away, but there are many more examples hidden throughout the film.

Chihiros parents show what greed truly looks like at the beginning of the film. The moment they enter the amusement park they start devouring the food that they find and just say “It should be okay, when they come back we’ll pay for it” showing no self control or discipline. They were eventually just turned into pigs magically after they showed greed. This also shows selfishness and avidity. In one part of the film it shows bathhouse workers just showering him in food, while no-face is just devouring it all. Food is a major driving force for greed in this film, as shown by No-face and Chihiros parents. No-face can be a variety of things, but a great explanation is No-face taking the emotions of the strongest around him, meaning since the bathhouse is greedy, he is greedy in the bathhouse.
