People that are stripped of their native culture are not always truly stripped of their soul or identity. It all depends on how strong they believe in their culture, or if they even believe in it at all. Some people could drift off because they don’t agree with their previous culture, but were forced in it. Others could drift off into another culture and realize that their previous culture is what they should believe in. It could also be that they were forced into a culture by outside impacts like colonialism or imperialism.

“Colonialism is a practice of domination, which involves the subjugation of one people to another. One of the difficulties in defining colonialism is that it is hard to distinguish it from imperialism. Frequently the two concepts are treated as synonyms. Like colonialism, imperialism also involves political and economic control over a dependent territory. The etymology of the two terms, however, provides some clues about how they differ. The term colony comes from the Latin word colonus, meaning farmer. Colonialism does not always have to be a beleif. It is simply one accepting another method or system of a foreign person. If people begin to realize this method or system is effective they may decide to excahnge their method for the other persons. “To this day, more than one million Chinese are African residents, and Chinese investment in Africa exceeds 40 billion dollars. They have spread their money and culture throughout the continent, and are now trading in excess of 166 billion dollars per year with Africa; securing 50 billion in minerals. Africa receives goods in return, and most of these goods support further resource extraction and industrial development. While this relationship was once seen as quite exploitive, views are changing as China fosters goodwill in these nations with more equitable agreements”(Mulag 1). This shows how China has slowly but surely spread their culture in Africa. It also says that the views were once viewed as “explosive”, but are now changing into good views. This defines colonization and shows that many Africans are still living their own native culture which proves that just because your native culture is not there, doesnt mean that people of that culture are weakened and stripped of their
