Social Work is a rewarding and demanding career which gives me the courage to support those who are in need. To become a successful social worker, I am aware of the responsibilities which come along with it. I will ensure that all service users with different age groups, religion, culture, beliefs and gender are all treated equally and meet their basic standards of care; without having to face any boundaries or implications. Also, by aiding them through any struggles that they may face, whether it be physical, emotional or social. I have also completed a one-year course of Health and Social Care Level 2 Extended Certificate. There have been many aspects during my course which has given me an insight of the skills and knowledge I will need when studying and becoming a social worker. For example, the unit Equality, Diversity and Rights has given me the acquaintance that all service users should be given the equal rights and privileges regardless of their cultural background, race, religion, age, sex or gender. Caring for Children and Young People was the unit that has given me the most insight and acknowledgement of a social workers role. I have understood the actions that will need to be taken when a child’s health and well-being is at risk or whether the child is not safe in the environment they are in. In cases like these contacting relevant authorities and being able to take the correct action when under pressure is vital. Finally, the unit Working in a Health Sector has given me an insight of the skills and knowledge I need when working with other relevant authorities. A social worker must be able to comprehend and practice their skills in different settings when working with other relevant authorities; to ensure the best outcome is given to the service user.
