I also find it interesting that such a show would exist, however, I feel that this goes to show how strong the ethnocentric views are in our society. And like you mentioned in your post, it does seem that the motivation behind the entire production is to generate revenue, from the person filling the role as the outsider to the producers. I feel that this also perpetuates the essentialist perspective, and adds to the power differential of privilege and class. I too felt that it was unrealistic for the individual to attempt to live a life like those living in poverty due to his privileges, and feel that it failed to take into account the many other pieces of poverty that go unmentioned. I feel that the created experiences lack reality
Similar to everyone else in the world, many sociological forces have greatly impacted my life and shaped the person that I am today. Throughout Sociology 110, learning what elements in the population’s lives affect the way they live their lives allowed me to consider what has personally affected my own. The person I am today can attribute the sociological forces such my gender, my not-so close knit family, my family’s low socioeconomic status, and sexism in the family. There are plenty of other sociological factors that have considerably rendered my person, however, I believe that the ones I mentioned are the most important factors that manipulated not only how I live my life, but me as a person as well, into my current self.
Dan Parris, a filmmaker and owner of Speak up Productions, in his documentary, What Matters, argues that it is everyone’s responsibility to care for the poor. Parris along with his two friends and assistant producers, Rob Lehr and David Peterka embark on a journey to experience poverty firsthand, in order to challenge their audience to think about their purpose. They adopt a deeply personal tone as they call young people to action. They support their claim through the use of ethos, pathos, and logos.
They could have place this show like the others on the cable channel, but decided on to not do that. They knew that not everyone had the means for having cable in their homes. Most of the commercials shown during the show is about car and we see cars as a luxury in our society. The show itself is about the rich and it shows wealth as well. Another commercial that was shown was based around health. It seems to be raising awareness of the many health risks that goes on in our society. The show itself focuses on two health, disease such as ALS, which luscious had and a mental sickness his son Andrea have. So it’s safe to say they are making people aware of sickness and diseases that most people would overlook. They are targeting those who have such illness. This show gives people with these illness hope to follow their dreams by not allowing anything to stand in their way. It encourages the audience to seek help if they are suffering from a mental disease or other challenges to not allow that to stand in their way. Most of the music that gets played during the show's audience can reflect upon it because it tells about the struggles that these characters are going

One of the sociological theories is conflict theory. The conflict theory deals with people's level on wealth, or class. The conflict theory says that social change is beneficial, contrary to focuses on social order. In the story of the woman and her children, the conflict theory plays a big role on the situation. Police of higher class are threatening the homeless woman. The conflict theory is a constant struggle of people of higher class over powering people of lower class, or the weaker. The police are trying to over power the woman by telling her to leave. Even though the woman and her children were doing nothing wrong, the police used their power to tell her to leave. Also the people of the area showed their conflict theory by telling the police officers to come. They must have felt embarrassed to have a woman of such lower class to be around them. They used their power of class to have the woman removed from their community. The woman wants to be there because she has no home and it is a good community to be in, but the people look at it as an embarrassment to them because it makes their area look bad for someone of such lower class to be around them. Sociological theories help to focus more on the aspect of social life, as well as explain behaviors that can be driven by passion, tradition, self-interest, religion, and the laws we have set out today in stone. “Unlike scientific theories, social theories tend to be more evaluative and critical than the theories in the natural sciences” (Appelrouth A. S.; Edles D. L 2012) Today, an analytical frame is used to help guide the comparing and contrasting of the several theoretical perspectives and traditions. In simpler terms, this four way frame is basically used to help compare and contrast theorist better. There are four main cells that make up this analytical frame which include, individual-rational, individual-nonrational, collective-rational, and collective-nonrational. Also included into this basic theoretical orientation or framework, are the core classical theorists. Those influential theorists included into the framework are Mead, who falls into the individual-nonrational side, Durkheim whom falls into the collective-nonrational side, Weber whom falls into the collective-rational side, and Marx who is also included into the collective-rational side.
