There are many events from my past that impact my development. For instance , when I was 5 years old I always used to watch a cooking show on TV with my mother and that show has a big influence on my development. Non-normative events represent the third source of developmental influence and are also called critical or idiosyncratic events. Such events do not occur in the same way for all individuals or predictable chronological age. Many of them bring changes that are unique. The main characteristic of these influences on development is unpredictability. Accidents, sudden illnesses, or even lottery awards are some examples of idiosyncratic events that may or may not occur throughout the course of life. In my case, the non-normative event that happened in my life was when a guy that I used to date tried to murder me. As a result, my life has never been the same.
Social learning theory claims that being active in processing information plays a critical role in learning (Sigelman & Rider, 2015, p. 44). This theory includes things like observational learning and latent learning. These are used in order for a child to develop different skills like learning to walk or ride a bike. Some skills are also learned but not performed. There are several theories that suggest how a person goes through development. Most theorist believed in only single development process or another that influence a person’s growth. However, there was one theorist that believed that there are several different aspects that influence a person’s development. His name was Urie Bronfenbrenner and he came up with the biological approach. The biological approach “suggest that five levels of the environment simultaneously influence individuals”. (Feldman 2014 pg 23) These five levels are the microsystem, mesosystem, exosystem, macrosystem, and the chronosystem. As a child I suffered an event that framed my life, a catastrophe that would change my life at least temporarily. This catastrophe changed things all around me, things in my family changed and things at home changed ever since that day. The biological theory refers to the focus of genetic factors that assist the child in adjusting to their environment. The theory highlights the importance of maturation of children’s bodies and their motor skills. The restriction of the biological theory however, is that it discounts the impact of children’s experiences. Behaviorism theory concentrates on children’s behavioral and emotional responses to changes in the environment. The argument against behaviorism is that it focuses on children’s visible behavior and ignores their thought process. The social learning theory interprets children’s beliefs and goals as affecting their behavior by what they learn when they observe others. In the psychodynamic theory, emphasis is on the interaction between internal conflict, early childhood experiences and the environment. Theorists focus on the personality development and how these early experiences play a role later in life. In cognitive-development theories, the concentration is on how the thinking process changes over time. Although it promotes adults to recognize children as curious minds trying to make sense of their environment, the theories lack clear stages that a child’s thought process goes through. Both Erik Erikson’s (1963) theory and Mary Ainsworth and John Bowlby (1973) theory support the idea that early life experiences impact the person across their lifespan. Both theories believe that personality begins to develop from a young age and therefore occurrences in early life can have lasting impacts on the developmental of an individual. An individual’s social and psychological development is significantly influenced by early life and childhood experiences. The experiences an individual has as a child impacts on the development of social skills, social behaviours, morals and values of an individual.
In my honest opinion, whatever we do or whatever happens to us as a child strongly impacts who we become. For me, I had 3 main events happen in my life in which I strongly believe have impacted my life. The three main events in my life were when I moved to Laredo, TX, when I came out as gay, and the many times I changed schools.

Learning became a key center of study in psychology throughout the beginning of the twentieth century ever since behaviourism developed as a huge school of thought (cited in Schaffer, 1996). Learning therefore is a significantly crucial notion in areas of psychology such as: cognitive development, developmental psychology, educational development and social development.

Many theories have been developed around this, in regards to what experiences and milestones should occur at what age. This individual development narrative will explain some of these theories, including: Freud, Ericson and Piaget in relation to my own development from a neonate through to early adulthood. Erik Erikson introduced us to eight stages of development that happens over a person’s lifespan. At each stage, there is a developmental task with a crisis that will need to be resolved to successfully go through that stage development. Because of these changes three major factors can have an impact on us: normative age-graded and normative history-graded influences and non-normative life events. These three factors can either have a biological or environmental influences on an individual’s development. A normative age-graded and normative history-graded influence that has occurred in my life was getting my driver’s license at the age of sixteen and experiencing the legalization of same-sex marriage. Helen Bee viewed development through sequences of stages of various events that occur in life. Dr. Helen Bee believed that the changes were due to one’s life experiences which cause maturity in making future decisions from knowledge of past experience. Therefore, past experience can help as a guide to handle future problems. I really enjoyed what Daniel Levinson believed about the changes that were brought on throughout life. She looked at the changes as a set order of sequences that occurred to define age eras of the stage Levinson Knowles, Holton & Swanson (2012). Her stages of sequences development begin at seventeen then proceeded up to the age of forty-five. Now a lot of experiences happen throughout life. Within this stage the learner becomes independent while experiencing new life as an adult. Now, a young child is not involved so the learner does not have family matters. At this age focus is mainly on getting a degree. The learner here is just beginning to explore things in life. Next, the second stage is middle adulthood age range forty to sixty. This learner can accomplish so much during this time frame. There may be a time when the learner may want to transition to another job or go back to school for a refresher course. Health becomes important to this learner special at the age of fifty. Lastly, late adulthood stage starts at age sixty and over. Sickness and disease is believed to attack learners in this stage of life. You will continue your education to

Cooley 's theory of socialization reflects my development. In his theory of the "Looking Glass," he states that we grow our view of "self" from how others interact and precieve us as. My developent fits that mold. I am extremely self aware, I pay attention to every detail of my peers, I try my best to be precieved as what I want to be. With my teachers I wanted them to see a good student, so I tried my very best to become one. With my peers I wanted them to see someone who could just blend in, so when I noticed them precieving my behavior as odd, I changed my behavior.
